Needed a little more fingerstick blood than needle lancets gave
For almost 18 years now my wife always had a little difficulty in lancing enough blood quickly enough for her home INR testing devices. She had used the Protime Monitor and now the Roche CoaguChek. The "needle" type lancets provided, as a separate service, with the test strips were almost adequate for her. However, too often, she just couldn't squeeze enough blood for the test strip. The testing device would time out and invalidate the test strip. Test strips were not cheap and obtaining them through medical professionals was a pain. For testing, I was given a few BD microtainer "blade" type lancets which worked better for her and was able to minimum purchase several hundred through a medical supplier. Unfortunately they are no available. A search on Amazon suggested the Surgilance green 1.8 mm blade lancet. I purchased a box of 100 at a very reasonable price. The Surgilance blade is more like a "chisel" compared to the BD lancet. My wife says she doesn't feel any sting when lancing her finger. The one time lancet is very easy to use and the blade retracts after lancing. You never see the blade. Be aware that lancing your finger after taking a long hot shower can cause of lot excess blood. My wife now test before taking a hot shower. This lancet may not be for everybody but works well for her.I disassembled a lancet to photograph the blade but is not recommended for sanitary. For normal usage you never see the blade.
