Lonely Planet travel guide hits the bullseye, again
Lonely Planet has always shown some of the quirky things about places I've visited and tells it like it is when there's important stuff to know.

useful guide
It's a great book. I traveled all thru the South Pacific last summer and didn't want to carry a half dozen books. This one really does the trick. Good hotel recommendations and all up the usual high LP standard.

Basic information on South Pacific islands
This book has only basic information on South Pacific islands. We were frustrated by the lack of detail and realized while on our trip to the South Pacific that it would have been better to purchase individual guides for each island nation.

Decent guide
When you can't find another guide series for your destination, you are sort of stuck with using the Lonely Planet Guide. It's OK, and there aren't a lot of travel guides for this region.

Well presented book
This is an excellent book but I did prefer David Stanley's Version. The latterhas not been revised since 2004 and seems not to be published any longer. This book gives you a good snapshot of the Pacific Islands but it is very difficult toget around since Air New Zealand pulled out of the Coral Route from Fijivia the Cook Islands to Tahiti and Lan Airlines reduced their service to one per weekto Tahiti from Easter Island and Santiago.Still an excellent read

and everyone keeps telling us it is not as easy in the South Pacific Islands and pre-booking hotels is ...
We were trying to determine where we wanted to go - French Polynesia, Fiji, or Cooks. Being from Canada, we were finding it difficult to find information about how easy/difficult it is to island hop. We have been to Thailand, Malaysia, & Indonesia, Cambodia & Vietnam, and travelled on our own. It appears, and everyone keeps telling us it is not as easy in the South Pacific Islands and pre-booking hotels is a must. Still not so sure, and it seems way more expensive to island hop. May just go back to SE Asia as it is super easy and we have had great experiences!

The only one
It seems sad that one of the most beautiful and fascinating parts of the world only has one guide book that is kept up to date. It does a very good job of covering the many islands and is a most useful planner and companion. I wish there was a similar guide for the North Pacific and would encourage Lonely Planet in producing one.
