An absolute treat of a book - full of delights
Johnny Trunk has been responsible for a couple of my favourite books - in particular Own Label is a particular favourite, so much so that I'm on my 3rd copy of it. I knew this new release, which focuses on confectionery and smack packaging in a similar fashion, would be of a similar standard but it's fair to say it may even surpass it as literally every other page brings forth a new wave of nostalgia. The wrappers in the book belonged to a serial collectior of otherwise forgotten packaging, Mr John Townsend, and it's a real delight spotting all my childhood favourites on the pages of this marvellous tome. This was originally a Kickstarter project, and I was gutted to miss out on the initial funding but I'm delighted to be able to support it now via the retail release. It's a paperback, clocking in at around 240 pages or so. Anyone that grew up with a sweet tooth in the 60/70/80s or anyone with a love of classic retro designs will be in their element here. The photos are all organised by brand name as opposed to category, and have been lovingly photographed with the upmost care. There's so much in here it will keep you going back for weeks and the products range from the big-hitters of the confectionery and fizzy drink industries like Golden Wonder, KP, Walls etc to smaller more obscure regional manufacturers. What is guaranteed is that every other page you'll see something amazing, whether it be a long forgotten childhood favourite or something you are seeing for the first time that's no less fascinating. There's also a forward by Jarvis Cocker as well as well as an intro by Johnny Truck covering how this book came about. It's a real delight from start to finish and covers an amazing and important collection.A real gem of a book that's been put together with lavish care, I really can't recommend this enough.

Sugar, Sugar and even more sugar
It does make you wonder about the teeth of my generation when you look at all these excessive sugary products but at the same time, this book does bring back a lot of memories of many long gone sweet / savoury products even to the point of remembering things such as cigarette cards 'Police Woman' etc. The artwork was bright and welcoming (and a little primitive at times) and I have to admit to munching many of the products but sadly did not keep the wrappers ... if only had I realised they would become collectable

Loved it.
Who would buy a book like this? Well I did and I'm glad that I did. Treasures from a bygone era, I only wish it was a bigger book. I do think that the publishers need to think about a second volume perhaps concentrating on goods from the West of Scotland and titling it 'The Messages' for the sake of conceptual continuity if nothing else.

Not what I expected
It has nothing to do with Amazon, just to be clear. It has to do with the content.
