.hack//G.U.: Abridged
.hack//G.U. Trilogy is an all-CG film that adapts the .hack//G.U. trilogy of games. Set within the MMORPG The World, it tells the story of Haseo who is on the quest to find a mysterious player known as Tri-Edge for PKing his friend Shino, resulting in her player falling into a coma in the real world. Along the way, Haseo encounters the mysterious Project G.U., a group of CC Corp-backed players created to look into the AIDA phenomenon; Atoli, a player who's player character has a similar design to Shino; and Ovan, a friend of Haseo's and Shino's who disappeared months before.Trilogy begins as a faithful recreation of the opening of the games. However, once Haseo is data drained and is forced back to level 1, the movie rearranges, alters, leaves out, and adds material. A majority of the main and supporting cast is left out or relegated to a cameo. Around eight characters play a role in the film and even then the majority play supporting cast to Haseo. This is a result of trying to adapt three thirty-hour games into an hour and a half film. However, this is to the detriment of the film. This leaves concepts unexplained (e.g. why Haseo changes forms throughout), themes of the games being downplayed or left out (e.g. how PKing has been a problem to the society of The World and learning to enjoy the game as a game), and relationships between characters are underdeveloped or non-existent.Yet, I do feel some aspects of the film are better choreographed and presented than the games' version of events. For example, Haseo's and Atoli's reconciliation being unhearable, letting the audience see their reactions do all the talking.Overall, Trilogy is an okay film that suffers from trying to adapt over ninety hours of story and gameplay into an hour and a half film. It starts faithfully before quickly diverging onto its own path.

Ten Pounds of Game in a Five Pound Movie
Note: This isn't intended as a standalone; you are going to need to watch .hack//Roots: Complete Series before it in order to have ANY idea what is going on.Essentially, after .hack//Sign: Complete Series laid down the path and .hack//Legend of the Twilight: Complete Series childed it up and dumbed it down, the current movie came along as the equivalent of the game.... You are going to need to take notes. I THINK I have it figured out, and if so, it is a good ending, and the CG graphics are spectacular, but non-players are going to spend most of this movie lost.Note: Funimation has also released the .hack//Quantum: Complete OVA Series (Blu-ray/DVD Combo).Note: This movie is only subtitled in English. There is no English voice dubbing.

I didn't catch that, what's his name again? Ovan? Got it...
Regardless of whether you've played the game or not, this movie is very lacking. While the animation and art style is great, there is just too much story to fit in its hour and thirty minute run time. You'd expect a hard to follow plot with undeveloped characters, instead you get a very simplified and altered version of what the original plot was, and no explanation for why things are happening. Supporting characters from the game are either missing or make the briefest of appearances, The World and its lively community is missing, they removed the tournament and any reason to explain its existence, and instead of being told really why Haseo is going somewhere or fighting someone (other then the premises of hunting down Tri-Edge) you just watch characters tell Haseo exactly what to do. The movie is overall fairly quite and slowly paced. There is a lot of hang time between scenes or bits of information, and when dialogue does come around, a good chunk of it is someone's name being shouted over and over... More then usual for an anime even. I say steer clear. It doesn't do the original games story or its characters any justice. Find the G.U. games if you can. Those are so much more worth your time. Oh, and not a single Grunty to be seen...

Anime woes it froze or quit playing some where into the movie

¿Seguros que el UK?
Porque a mi me aparece solo en francés. Aunque la caja diga específicamente que tiene audio en Japonés y Francés y subtítulos en Inglés y Francés, todo el DVD está enteramente en Francés, menús incluidos.

I enjoyed it
To start off what everyone wants to know, yes it is in French but it's not hard to read the subtitles and enjoy the movie collection (basically 3 part episodes put into one as a full length movie) this is different to the roots main series as it is in quite well done CGI graphics and so is very enjoyable to watch. I would highly recommend this as the series is full of filler which is explained in this movie really well at the start, summed up in about 20 minutes so if you like story/filler watch the series first but this is highly recommended for what it had to follow from. Enjoy.
