Rack great, packaging terrible
The rack mounted precisely on my 2012 Miata. I don't know if what I received was a return item that was not repackaged correctly, but what I received was the rack in a crushed box inside a Amazon box. The rack was intact, but all of the screws, washers and loose parts were floating loose inside the inner box with some parts stuck between the flaps. Fortunately, only non-essential parts were missing. The rack and components appear to be well made.

Great luggage rack
The luggage rack was actually delivered about 2 hours early. It was very easy to install. Just line it up so that both sides are equal distance from the sides of the trunk lied and tighten the 5 bolts. From wiping the trunk lid to admiring my work (I'm pretty compulsive) it took about 30 minutes. The rack is heavy so be careful. I looks exactly like it does in the pictures and is just what the doctor ordered for the my purpose in buying - I couldn't be more pleased.

Fantastic purchase to expand cargo space; attaches easily/securely and surprising retro-cool appearance
I love this thing; I wish I'd bought one back in 2008 when I first got my car. It fits beautifully on my 2008 MX-5 hard top. It's easy to attach and remove; I've taken it on and off several times. As long as the exterior surface of the trunk is clean, it shouldn't leave a mark. (I'd predict -- though haven't yet had this problem -- that if there were grit on the car surface, the grit might cause faint scratches to the paint underneath the rubber feet). Visually, the luggage deck looks great -- surprisingly retro and cool. I'd actually leave it on all the time, except the hard top can't come down while the it's attached, and it makes the trunk lid very heavy (it slams easily, you have to close it gently). The deck is incredibly sturdy. I picked up a large Tactical deployment bag (Mission Ready) with stiffened sides to hold a small tent and various camping supplies; since the bag was a single piece, it was easy to attach securely with bungee cords. If you'd ever had storage problems with the trunk (and who hasn't!), I'd strongly recommend you get one.

GREAT Customer service but maybe not such a great product
I bought it for extra storage for my trip in my 2012 MX-5 PRHT. Customer support from Surco was OUTSTANDING. I called to confirm compatibility with my hardtop and they said I would need a modified front hook to ensure clearance. They mailed the part to me free of charge and I received it in time for my move. Thank you VERY VERY MUCH!!!Unfortunately, when I actually mounted the deck rack, I noticed that the curvature of the leg base didn't match the contour of the deck lid. As I began to tighten the hook mounting bolts, I could see the deck lid begin to deform. Fearing permanent damage, I chickened out and removed the deck rack. Unfortunately, assuming the installation would be uneventful, I destroyed the shipping box so I'm unable to return the rack for replacement or refund, my bad.A couple of other things to note: The chrome plating appears to be relatively thin. I have some concern for the durability, especially if exposed to the weather for an extended period. Also, the protective material on the hooks (to protect against damage to the paint) was very thin and I feared not sufficient to protect the paint (though I have NOT proven that to be the case).Full disclosure: I did NOT contact Surco regarding these latter issues because of my mistake in destroying the box. Given the opportunity, Surco may have offered me the opportunity to obtain a replacement with properly aligned legs. My rating is based upon my experience with the product. I would give Surco's customer support a rating of 5 stars.

Highly recommended, very useful
Used to carry extra luggage (40-50lbs) on a 2500mile road trip to Colorado and back. Very easy to install, the only tool needed was a large phillips screwdriver, they included the necessary allen wrench. Make sure you clean the surface of the trunk under the rack feet before installation to prevent any scuffing during use.Upon removal I found no damage to the trunk lid even after accidentally letting the trunk slam shut with the full weight of my luggage. There was minor paint scuffing on the body panels adjacent to the lid, however this is inside the gap between the panels and is not visible unless the trunk is open. Under normal usage or with more care I'm sure this could be prevented.

Impressed!
Very nice and sturdy. It does sit a little high, but that seems to be so that the third brake light still shows. My wife and I loaded two beach chairs, a beach cart, tent, umbrella and cooler on this and travelled over 400 miles one way. Nothing budged. We pushed this thing way beyond the recommended limit and were concerned we might get stopped and ticketed, but it held firm!

Classy
This really dresses up the rear end of my 2009 Miata. Adds a nice chrome touch. I use it to carry a covered spare tire which the trunk can not accommodate. If you own a Miata, you know there is no spare tire, so I bought a tire and wheel and now drive with peace of mind -- I prefer a spare to a can of sealer and air pump.
