Beautiful Illustrations and Great Character Development
Katy Hudson has become by far my favorite illustrator and kids book author. We own many of her books and LOVE all of them and couldn’t wait for this new one to come out. The characters are developed so well in each one and there is always an important lesson to me learned. My 5 and 3 year old love when I ask if I can read her books at night and I love that I enjoy reading it as much as they do. I would absolutely recommend this book and her others “the golden acorn”, “too many carrots”, “a loud winters nap”.

Brilliant as usual!
My boys just LOVE Katy Hudson’s books (I do too!) and her newest one does not disappoint! The illustrations are magnificent and gorgeous as usual, and the story is engaging and sweet and has a great message about what matters most. I HIGHLY recommend any and ALL of her books to anyone with young kiddos who love to read!

Another great Katy Hudson book
My 4 year old granddaughter loves all Katy Hudson books. She loves the pictures and the animals in them. The first one I got was Too Many Carrots and we have read that so often that I can do it by heart. Then we got Loud Winters Nap and she loves that one too. So I buy all of her books that I can find. They always bring such joy.

Fun with a Good Message
Beaver likes to be totally in charge of his life and what goes on around him. Some might call him a perfectionist. And they would be right. Though perfection to one might be different for another, Beaver has a clear idea of what is perfect. And for his birthday he has spent time creating the perfect recipe for the perfect cake. But when he tells his friends about the perfect multi-layered cake that he plans to make, they say it’s too much work for one person. So Tortoise, Bird, Rabbit, and Squirrel insist that they will bake the cake. However, in their haste, a series of mishaps result in a creation that is far from perfect. So far from perfect that Beaver loses it,“This is the UGLIEST most DISGUSTING cake I have ever seen!” he yelled. “None of you followed my very clear recipe.”Yikes! Though Beaver is a perfectionist, he may have lost it. How will his friends react when he proceeds to start all over and make the cake himself?Hudson’s illustrations are extremely cute and accompany the story beautifully. My thanks for NetGalley and Capstone for an ARC of this book and the freedom to give my honest opinion. What Concerned MeThe text was just on the edge of bothering me. Especially in one place where the dialog has so many noticeable tags.interrupted Rabbitstarted Beaveroffered Rabbittweeted BirdI just felt the text didn’t flow easily. But all in all, this is a very small concern. What I Liked BestA) The message is very good . . .Watch that your vision of perfection doesn’t cause you to overlook what’s really important.Weigh the importance of what is upsetting you and try to enjoy the moment.and B) I love the cute illustrations.

Katy Hudson's always good.
A good book for perfectionist kids. I don't know if it'll change anything, but it's nice to make them aware a little of what's more important than perfection.
