Hard to put down
I love this author’s plots and twists. She keeps me glued in. I’m sure my family doesn’t appreciate when I pick up one of her books (lol) because it means I’m probably not cooking dinner.

Whoa! So many F-bombs!
The author waited until near the end of the book to inundate a page full of expletives. No thanks! I probably missed some details in the story because I had to skip past all that garbage. There was an interesting focus on family in this book; a rather dysfunctional family. Personally, I think the dynamics between the sisters is totally unrealistic. There's a five year age difference and the eldest is an obvious type A personality. There's no way the younger sister ends up with the dominating behavior between them. Just not real. The mystery was extremely well developed. All those chapters from the killer's point of view... what a red herring! Very clever. If the language doesn't improve, I won't keep reading this series though. There was no excuse for how bad it got. Hey Author, have you ever heard of exposition? That's where you tell what happened instead of "showing". In this genre is usually used to keep down the gore and expletives so people read your book for the interesting story instead of salacious details. Try it sometime. Instead of a page of dialogue that is 50% F-bombs, you just write 'He swore at him' etc. Add in some expressions 'like a mad man', 'screamed foul curses'. Whatever. Use your imagination. That's why we read.

Couldn't put it down!
It's been a while since I've read books and who done it mysteries have always been my go to. Never heard of the author until I bought this book and man was this book was a non stop page turner once it got going!!! Didn't know it was a series until I finished it and I've already bought the rest! If murder mysteries are your thing you'll love this book!

This murder mystery is a thriller impossible to put down.
Detective Jo Fournier has got to be my favorite detective of all time after getting into M.M. Chouinard's murder mystery thriller novels. I would rate this novel five out of five stars any day of the week. After I complete the series, I have no doubt in my mind that I will be reading them multiple times. Get cozy on your couch and pick up one of these novels, you will be on the edge of your seat with each chapter you finish. I am telling you, this novel as well as the other Detective Jo Fournier novels are impossible to put down.

Can’t get into this book
It’s very slow to start. Don’t like the setting of the murder and not impressed with the character development at all. Seems like the author is trying too hard to check all of the boxes. Not impressed…still sitting on the shelf.

It is UNPUTDOWNABLE!
There's only one downside when discussing M. M. Chouinard, THERE AREN'T ENOUGH NOVELS TO KEEP ME READING! It's been years since I've found an author that really keeps me hanging on, and Chouinard does it well! The Jo Fournier series have realistic investigative details that bring you into the mindset of the detectives. Her villains are believable and intriguing. She gets you into the minds of all characters without extra confusing dialogue to just fill space. I was unable to get ahead of her and "figure it out" so there are nice surprises along the way. I've finished the Fournier series and am saving "The Vacation for our upcoming beach vacation. It's really hard to not cheat and start it early. I am hoping there are more Fournier novels in the future. I really dont think you can go wrong with any of her novels.

The author has four books, so far, in the series and this is number 3.
This book is entertaining, if you like mysteries. The author is creative with the crimes and her main charactersare a woman police detective and her partner. This is the third book I've read from this author and I just ordered thefourth. She always manages a twist at the end and intersperses the detective's life problems giving the charactermore depth. The series remind me of the J.D. Robb "Death..." books. The paperbacks are inexpensive and worth the read, especially during long periods at home. Thank God for Amazon!

Very confusing
A really well written book but for me someone with a server brain injury too much time spent on random turns and not enough explanation of character also so many character s to follow it just become increasingly difficult to follow hope you have move much with it ☺

Formulaic
Every chapter was a struggle (as if I was reading text written by a high school student). I felt like I had read similar writing and characters before, and I had to give up on chapter six. The writing seems stilted--like right-click synonyms peppered throughout. The dialogue does not resonate as authentic either. What is bookulture (publisher), anyway?

Hard pass
As a reader of this genre, I found it a very dull and uninteresting read. Definitely not a recommended book.

The second in this excellent series of police procedurals
My thanks to Bookouture for an eARC via NetGalley of M.M. Chouinard’s ‘Taken to the Grave’ in exchange for an honest review. I did buy my own Kindle/Audible combination on publication. This is the second in her Detective Jo Fournier series and follows on from ‘The Dancing Girls’. In the course of three days there has been two murders connected to Oakhurst University. A Tarot card has been left close to both bodies. As the body count continues to rise, Jo and her partner, Det. Bob Arnett, have to sift through the evidence and eliminate a number of potential suspects. In addition, Jo receives devastating news about her father’s health and is torn between her career and loyalty to her family. The first book was quite light on personal information about Jo though here we learn much more about her background. This was another excellent police procedural from Chouinard with plenty of twists and turns. It proved almost impossible to put down.I enjoyed the first book very much and this only cemented my admiration for Chouinard. Roll on Book 3 coming next year.
