This Box Rocks!
Ordered on Friday, delivered (free) the following Monday … OUTSTANDING! Set-up was simple, buttons and connections are self-explanatory. Right out of the box, I began to charge the battery by connecting the AC adapter (12 hours minimum). Pairing was a cinch with the Soundfreaq app, although my Galaxy S3 and Asus tablet readily acquired sans app. The Sound Kick uses a Bose-like baffling chamber to resonate sound. This chamber must be fully extended (exposing a silver mark on the pull-out chamber) to use the unit. Google Play Music and Milk Music played perfectly (and while not a Sound Kick issue, Google Play volume was very muted even with device and speaker volume levels topped out; Milk Music absolutely screamed). Play via the GS3 sounded better with the normal or auto EQ setting, rather than rock/pop or dance. For a small speaker system, the sound is quite remarkable, whether playing classical, country, disco, or metal, the Sound Kick delivered clear, crisp reproductions. Applying the UQ3 spatial enhancement will depend on several factors, including your personal tastes, track mastering, and device EQ settings. The “dance” EQ on my GS3 with a professionally mastered dance mix will push the Kick well past its range, and the UQ3 makes it worse, not that without the UQ3 was much better. The Sound Kick is a mid-range, all around speaker system. You won’t Rock the Casbah with it, but you will Rock the Room! Determining battery usage is based on a blinking or steady red or green light, however I played the Kick for 7.5 hours and the light blinked Red-3 times, signifying a 10-30% charge remaining. If you choose to charge your phone, expect significantly less play time. The Kick’s slim build makes it easy to pack into a laptop bag or backpack. The Kick makes a great rich, full sound enhancement option with slim build, battery/AC power and USB charging, duel Bluetooth/3.5mm connections, for under $100. Perfect for dorms! 5-stars Soundfreaq, well done!

A sound purchase
I was made aware of this speaker while on a photo shoot. One of the crew had theirs set up and it filled an entire large room with great sound and lasted all day. I was so impressed, I flipped it over and snapped a pic of the name and model number and from there, researched it online, found I wasn't the only one impressed, and ordered one -- factory refurbished for $49. Totally great buy because this thing just works perfectly and sounds fantastic. Linking it up with my iPod touch was effortless and I suppose I shouldn't be impressed when things work exactly the way they're supposed to, but I still am. Once the two devices are paired, I need only turn on the Sound Kick and it automatically "wakes up" the Bluetooth connection on my iPod. A light finger on the capacitive touch play key and the music starts. It's that easy. I can charge the iPod from the Sound Kick, whose battery lasts for hours and hours, and the speaker is compact enough to toss in a weekend bag to take on trips with me.The adapter is dual-voltage, so buy with confidence if you live or travel overseas. The build quality of the Sound Kick is excellent. It's not flashy, nor is it going to win over any who value style over substance. It's got a great blend of metal and plastic, though, and just seems like a well-built device. I've not personally dealt Soundfreaq customer service, but from everything I've read, they're fantastic.I'm completely satisfied with this speaker and definitely recommend it.

Good (for the money) but not great (UPgraded to 4 stars)
I bought this to have decent sound while watching shows on the laptop & listening to podcasts.Sound is certainly better than any laptop speaker. Crisp sound to pick up dialogue and most mids & highs with music. Light on booming base, but its a pretty small unit. Smaller than I expected ( a good thing). Superb battery life thus far. The price was great. Built well. Easy to use.Based on reviews, I expected this to pump out a bit more volume. Kind of maxes out at 6.5 / 10 sort of sound. Good enough for watching a movie on the laptop with crackling fire in the background, but not really a boombox kind of output to fill large spaces.***Thanks to OUTSTANDING customer service--my defective unit was returned for free & replaced with new model that has ZERO issues listed in the following paragraph:Connecting to older Mac w/ IOS 10.5 has proved difficult. Sound will cut out & get scratchy from time to time when streaming movies & I will have to pause viewing, disconnect bluetooth link, then re-connect again. This happens every other program it seems. This could be a ISP problem, but it also becomes glitchy when playing music from my phone using iTunes.Overall, I like it. If the inconsistencies turn out to be computer software & ISP problems, then it will get a 4 star rating (It now gets 4 stars).Lightweight. Portable. Easy to connect. Enhances listening experience for minimal dollars. Glad I stuck with Soundfreaq and kept the faith based on many other reviews (was finally de-throned by TheWireCutter.com's review).

Disappointing sound quality
I have the Soundfreaq Pocket Kick and was so impressed with its exquisite audiophile sound quality that I thought I would try the larger Sound Kick 2. This speaker is 3 times the size of the Pocket Kick yet has less bass. The Pocket Kick has the best midrange and high end of any bluetooth speaker available. The high frequencies of the Sound Kick 2 are poor, more like a transistor radio. It is hard to believe that both speakers are from the same company. Buy the Pocket Kick for $20 less. You will love it.
