Extensive Coverage - Impressive!
Highly Recommend. This is an excellent resource to add to your home reference library. You will be truly amazed by how extensive this book is in terms of the single food items, prepared entrées, condiments and ingredients covered as well as portion sizes and preparation methods. If you can eat it, it's likely in here:I have several hickory trees - Hickory Nuts are in here.I like to hunt and fish - in here.My elderly mother has several dietary restrictions. I can look up individual items to verify the quantity of off-limits vitamins and minerals. This book is EXTENSIVE. You will be very happy with this resource if you have limited internet access or prefer book-based reference. This is solely a "data" book with almost no nutrional discussion or theory, therefore, I would pair this book with a Nutrionist's desk reference of some sort.

The NutriBase Nutrition Facts Desk Reference
This book has a lot of helpful info. Expecting a pocket size (4x7) paperback to carry in my purse. But this is a lge size (9x7 1/2). I will learn something new everyday from the info. Thank you, totally impressed by the delivery promptness.

Nutrient information
The purchase of the second edition of this guide was made because my first edition was falling apart and held together by elastic bands. The second edition includes many of the foods from organic food stores and medical nutritionals in addition to fresh, anned, frozen and dried foods. The portion size is given in amounts usually used and in quantities that are geared toward those with scales or bulk measures like cup portion or spoon size. As a diebetic knowing the nutrititional values of the foods in my diet is important. The introduction is easy to understasnd and to help guide daily food intake wisely. My only complaint is that the sugar level of foods is not included while that number is included in the carbohydrate value it is not the same amount and would be much more helpful in managing my disease.

A good source
I wanted an updated nutrition information source and purchased it alone with another nutritional handbook. I am not yet comfortable with using it to the best advantage but feel it will come as I use it more often. I feel it is important to have accurate nutritional information. I may not always make the best choice but at least I can feel I've made an informed one.

Ripped Pages
I book a book but when I received it, some pages were ripped. How can people sell books with ripped pages? And it wasn't cheap.

Has all the odd foods I eat!
Has many more basic fresh foods. Many ethnic foods I could never find anywhere else. Excellent for diabetics and those that cook. NOT PORTABLE. But thorough, and excellent cross referencing.

Disappointed to a Degree
This book is nice with tons of foods listed. The reason for 3 stars is it just basic info, carbs, proteins, fats, sodium and fiber. No potassium, magnesium, or other items that need monitoring. Disappointed!I have revised my star to 4. In the back of the book it has all the minerals and vitamins, but pages upon pages if just baby food! Not as disappointed as before but could have used more useful foods.
