Film marred by the shadow of the Second World War
Initially I thought this would be a very nice fairytale story, but I was a bit disappointed by the framework it was woven into: the Second World War. The story about the boy and the water horse is truly charming, but it could have been in a much better setting, not in such an ugly setting as war and the military. Why does the British film industry and media keep hankering after the Second World War, pretending it never ended? And a top-notch actor such as Alex Etel, who played the charming Damian in Millions, should have deserved a much better setting in the beautiful Scottish landscape. It's really a pity this story is marred by the shadow of the Second World War...

Well worth buying QUALITY FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT
I managed to see the majority of this film just recently and even though i was unaware it had been made five years ago i found it most enjoyable and moving as well.Like others who have reviewed the Blu Ray transfer of the film it certainly does the magnificent backdrop of the Scottish Highlands and the waters of Loch Ness justice with decent sound as well. The monster animation was most realistic and its relationship with lonely Angus the young boy mourning the loss of his father in the war was beautifully acted. There are few films that i have readily purchased without seeing them from begining to end but what i saw of the film left me enchanted with the whole story. The Loch Ness monster theme has been dealt with a few times over the years on film but none have captured the pure magic of mysterious creatures in Britains largest expanse of fresh water so well. The comedy and relationship between Angus and Cruso the monster make this a tear jerker that will suit viewers of all ages with anthe ending especially memorable and heartwarming.A feel good film if there ever was one and well worth watching time and again with the added bonus of a superb Blu Ray transfer at a lovely price.Buy it knowing that the next time your children or child are fed up it will bring a little bit of magic into their lives, it did with me even though i am far older than the films intended audience. It goes to show age is no barrier when a film as nice as this one is available for all to enjoy. What a shame nobody has actually proved the existence of Cruso, it would do wonders for the Scottish tourist industry.

Wonderful
This is one of those heart warming wonderful films that can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.I will not go into the synopsis of the movie as you will find it on this page. However, if you are someone who is thinking of purchasing this title and have a Blu ray player then this transfer is superb. In fact, this was one of the first Blu ray titles I bought shortly after receiving my Blu ray player. The opening scenes depicting the Scottish countryside are absolutely crystal clear. We even noticed that during a scene where we see the hands of a fisherman we could see the hairs on them!Audio is also fantastic, with amazing depth and clarity and deliver punchy performance during action sequences. The CGI work in this movie is also first rate and is shown off to great effect in this Blu ray transfer.I can recommend this title without reservation and for the price it's a must-buy for your Blu ray collection.Simply wonderful!

Truth or fiction?
My grandson enjoyed this when he first saw the film a couple of years ago. He visited Loch Ness recently, which made the story more realistic for him, so we purchased a new copy which he has watched several times already.

The Water Horse
This is a lovely storey for the whole family. I throughly enjoyed it. A young boy finds an egg which he brings home. It hatches into a little creature which grows magically into a hugh sea mammal. So the story goes affecting lives around it until it swims away to its own destiny. Sad when it left its friends behind. Everybody enjoyed this. Something to watch again in the future. Should have been a sequel.

Faulty DVD which can't be returned
The DVD freezes/stops/jumps in at least 3 spaced out places on the film and we had to skip scenes to continue watching. No obvious scratches or marks of any sort so assume faulty. This was bought as a gift and put away for right time, which happened to be 5 months after purchase. Unfortunately sellers return policy is within 30 days. Disappointment all round. Thankfully cost of item wasn't high.
