Barrymore Hyde and Seek
In 1920 John Barrymore brought to the screen his interpretation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and became an international star. He was widely acclaimed the best actor on stage and screen in his time because of this role. Although modern audiences will chuckle at his portrayal of Hyde there is no denying the impact it still has in certain scenes. HIs first transformation without the use of hardly any makeup is still amazing and the scene where he changes into the repulsive Mr. Hyde in front of his fiancé's shocked father and then proceeds to beat him to death is still disturbing and powerful. This figure captures the monstrous and unctuous nature of Mr. Hyde and is a good likeness of Barrymores miscreant if a bit stylized. He has the spidery elongated fingers and pointy head which are unique to Barrymores creation but I wish he also had his top hat. It exudes evil just like the cinema Hyde who relishes every perverse second of his existence and is just as hideous. I especially like the sadistic smile on his face that captures the the inner soul of this human monster. This is a 2 figure set and comes with a Dr. Jekyll figure locked inside Hyde { how appropriate since Hyde is the dominant figure } and also a laboratory and street scene. The reason I don't give this a 5 star rating is because the Doctor does not resemble John Barrymore, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this case and any fan of this silent classic should not deprive themselves of purchasing this figure.
