Very entertaining!
If there is any propaganda, it's no more than the bits shown in all those 007 or Captain America movies. For those who are interested, there is a future Olympian in the Taking of Tiger Mountain. Su Yiming, who had played the boy Knottie in this film, won a god medal and a silver medal on snowboarding in the 2022 Winter Olympics at the age of 18.

Boring Communist Propaganda
This one reminded me of the old Soviet propaganda movies. Revisionist history approved by the Communist party with all the hallmarks of dull Commie movie making, including a boring story line.

It's an Action-Packed Revisionist Self-Aggrandizement
The Chinese Communist revisionism strikes again! This time, it is loaded with exciting, albeit full of BS, gun fights and other cinematic actions! The Chinese Communist army in 1946 was still known as the "Eighth Army" of the Republic of China (not the People's Republic of China, yet). By simple arithmetic, they were 1/8 of the Chinese fighting force against the invading Empire of Japan. By all accounts outside of present day Communist China, they did very little actual fighting against the Japanese. However, you would never know that if, say, you were living in Communist China now behind the Great Firewall of China; instead, from all accounts, both official AS WELL AS from fictional depictions in movies (a la this movie) and TV shows, you would think that it was the PLA (People's Liberation Army; again, did not come to existence until AFTER World War II) who single-handedly defeated the Japanese.Five minutes into the movie, you see every third of the good guys using a machine gun. Not even the US ground forces (Army and Marines) had that many machine guns at that time! The Eight Army was very poorly equipped. There was a slight mention of Chiang Kai-shek in a single line; something negative about the behavior of the troops under him. Surprise, surprise; the main antagonist of this movie is not the Nationalist army under Chiang! (Albeit, a less significant antagonist is a high-ranking Nationalist officer.) The reason for this could very well be Beijing's recent propaganda policy to be friendlier to the Nationalist, both in the way Beijing interacts with the Nationalist Party in Taiwan and in the way the Chinese Communist government deals with the Nationalist in their revisionist history. The rest of the movie is action-packed with very good cinematography. It's fairly entertaining.

soviet union style propagandist movie(chinese version)
Some actions were okay, some of them were really silly. The best scene was with the tiger but you can skip the rest of the movie. Overall too much of communist era propaganda, just tells me how much government censorship exists there. Reminds me of old soviet union movies. I am sure our socialist government would really love watching this one. Just instead of bandits put rich people on the mountain and make it a must watch movie in school.

One of the best.
Excellent! I am surprised at the quality of story and production. Mixing real war history; a unique setting (from the novel apparently) the Chinese civil war era, with marauding bandit gangs, a ragtag company of seasoned PLA fighters, and impoverished villagers to make a story with enough realism and fantasy to rival any big action blockbuster movie.Lots of colorful characters, excellent production values, and the kind of storytelling that should capture mass appeal. Glad I took the Yi-Hah subscription offer here as I love Asian drama. Especially with some historical alignment.

Love this movie.
I sincerly believe that the best movies being made today are coming from China and Korea. This is a great example of a historically based fantasy that is just increadible. Great story, great characters, great action. I originally saw this for free online and liked it so much I bought the disk. THAT GOOD.
