Not the right bowl for northern winters!
I purchased this only 2 months ago, so my squirrels and birds would have water in the winter. I loved it at first, but we live in southern Wisconsin, and once the temperature went below zero, the water turned to pretty much solid ice. I was disappointed the water in these bowls wasn't warm, after all the title DOES say HEATED pet bowl. But I guess none of them are really heated. I ended up going to Farm and Fleet and finding one that was bigger, therefore holding more water, and the cost was only $16.99. And our temperatures were at -7 below this morning, and the water was still 'water' this morning, with maybe a little ice in it. (In my Farm & Fleet bowl) I hate writing bad reviews, but thought it would help folks if the outside temperature where you live drops below zero!! Nice deep dish, just not suitable for harsh northern winters!

Great Product, Reliable and Durable
4+ years and still going strong!!! We use this heated water bowl for outdoor cats in the winter. We're located in Ohio where the temperature has been well below zero on several occasions and it has always kept the water drinkable. Although the water bowl is under a covered porch, it has withstood multiple racoon encounters as well as all the normal wear and tear our cats throw at it. We store away the bowl during the summer months, plug it back in each fall, and it is good-to-go for the entire winter. In retrospect, maybe we should have purchased a slightly larger size, this one seems to hold enough water for 4 cats to drink for about 2-3 days. Bottom line, this heated water bowl is durable and has proven to be reliable over time... would definitely recommend...

Great heated bowl with chew-proof cord.
I purchased one of these 4 years ago and it kept water unfrozen all winter with temps below zero F several days in a row. I liked it so well, I bought another the next year so my pets could have plenty of water if I was gone for a couple of days. Both are still working great. I will say that the color of the 1st one has faded considerably over time from sun exposure, and the color of the 2nd one has also faded to a lesser degree. The anti-chew feature of the cords is also fabulous. Water stays liquid, but the heater does not make it warm to touch at all.

very disappointed, changed review
Update to review - from 5 to 2 stars . My original review is below. Now that winter has arrived with a vengeance I'm disappointed to find that this nice bowl does NOT heat water for squat. this picture waa taken when it was 28 degrees outside and had iced and snowed in apocalyptic proportions for a few hours. the bowl had ice on it, creeping in from the edges, even at 30 degrees but the birds managed to tap through for a bit. i cleaned bowl, refilled 2x and checked to make sure plug was ok. as soon as it was outside it froze. now its -5 degrees outside and while i know thats going above and beyond possibly in expectations, i did have a bowl like this many years ago and it worked even at - 70 windchill and 4 feet of snow. dont know if this is a lemon but at 25 amps and the price it ought to work in the cold, even at 29 degrees. im looking for a replacement. :/-----original review below I ordered this to use for water for the birds this winter. Being small it fits on my window sill (4 stories up.) This replaces one of this same brand that I had for almost 6 years and which worked like a champ though 9" blizzards, ice storms, -10 F. temps and many mourning doves using it as a toilet. It's easy to swab out with a cloth. I liked the cord because it's not really thick and so not like fighting an anaconda to get it to go where you want it to go. I think this is a terrific value!

Heater Gave Out in Three Months!
I was really surprised when this heated pet dish failed! We've had other heated pet dish bowls, and all of them have lasted longer than three months. It has not even gotten down to zero degrees Fahrenheit where we live and the bowl is on a hard flat surface in a protected area. Window for return on Amazon closed about two days before the heating element failed. Product listing states "limited one year warranty" but further down on the product listing, under "Legal Disclaimer" it states that "All Sales Final"Have contacted the company to see if they will honor the one year limited warranty. If they do I will update the review with the replacement bowl.

Water is fresh all winter long.
I have a couple of these bowls for my outdoor feral cat friends. Water is important all year long but in winter it is harder to come by. These bowls turn on only when temperatures drop below freezing and use minimal wattage. I take care of a small colony and my place is a refuge for them. Remember that even though it is kind to provide food and water to ferals that it is even more important to trap neuter/spay and release them.

Perfect for frigid New England winters!
I love this bowl! I got it for my 5 chickens. It's February now and I've been using it for about 4 months. We've gone through several cold spells where the temperature dropped down to double negatives overnight, single digits during the day, and the bowl has never frozen! Even when it's snowing on it and everything else is covered in deep snow, the water in the bowl stays liquid! I am seriously impressed by this bowl. I've even done a test where I've dumped a whole bunch of snow on top of it, piling up into a mound, and come back later to find the water completely melted and liquid. Now I do that when I'm too lazy to go bring water from the house to refill the bowl - I just dump a bunch of snow in it, and it melts and turns to liquid water. It keeps the water at a nice cool temperature, too - it's not ice cold water, but just cool water, which I'm sure feels nice when the critters are already feeling cold. The bowl is really easy to clean, too. I don't take it back into the house to clean. I just pour a bit of water in and swish it around, and dump it, and it's nice and clean again. Doesn't hold on to grime or get slippery and gross like some other containers do. A quick swish and it's clean.I love love love this bowl and highly recommend it to anybody who has outdoor critters!

Kept water from freezing outside in winter
So far so good. Used for a month in cold weather for animals outside. Wont need until next winter.

Works as advertised
Works great. We've had temps go down to -30 Celsius and not a problem.
