Great Product, CAREFUL when selecting vendor!
I ordered this great pre-emergent Sept. 19 and somehow (still have no idea WHY) I ended up with a different vendor AND paid tax too (Solutions Pest & Lawn). When I called them 11 days later, I was told they didn't have it for more than 6 months. I then called AgCare direct and 2 days later I got the pkg. at the door! If you battle weeds (and loose) you know how important timing is for your success. Please read vendor reviews as well when placing your order. Enough said! That being said, make sure you read the instructions and follow a rigorous schedule when using it. Also, each weed seed has a different germination schedule, so it is important to know what weeds you try to prevent so you know when to apply (BEFORE seeds germinate). You might need to apply two different herbicides in order to control all weeds you want to eliminate. Surflan has a pretty wide range of grass & broad leaf weeds, however is not a magic kill all bullet. (There is no such thing) I have 5ac with a mixture of grasses: Centipede, St. Augustine, Zosia AND the wild, native, aggressive Bermuda in areas I didn't spend the money to sod/seed. Surflan proved safe for all of them and my extensive ornamental beds. Please note, although this is applied as a spray, it still requires 1/2" of rain/irrigation within 21days of application in order to be activated or else is ineffective. The 1/2" must be at ONE time; multiple waterings of less than that, will not drive the herbicide deep enough but rather bind it at the surface, again, making it ineffective. Product has a 3+yrs. shelf life (proper light/temp), & for normal suburban yard, this should last you for 2 seasons...more or less. Make sure you have it on hand (don't wait like I did, it tends to run out of stock at all major distributors during peak periods) and be ready to spray at the proper time. READ & FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!

No weeds!
I used this just before the rain and very little is growing there, probably spots I didn't cover properly. I used it on after areas after the first light rain and though there are some things growing it is much less than in previous years. The first areas i sprayed were iris beds where I want the iris to be with no weeds. This is the only product I can spray in there that won't kill the rhizomes. Next year I will apply it earlier, I try to watch for the rain and apply it when I know sufficient rain will fall to ensure it works. This year we had a good inch of rain then a couple of weeks of weather in the 60's and some 70 degree days which is unusual, I hoped the 2nd application in the other areas would work better than it did as i could see nothing growing.at the time of application. However I think the seeds had germinated and were holding there own for the next rains. Next year I will definately use this and apply it earlier.

Great stuff
This stuff is a lifesaver for weed control. Takes time to put down. Wear old clothes. But it works!

Not very effective on sand burrs.
I've used this pre-emergent for two seasons now in an effort to control sand burrs. It's helped some, but not enough to justify the price. It might be effective on other weeds or grasses, but not sand burrs. Time to try lime, fertilizer or another herbicide.
