Tricky but powerful - stick with it!
These are by no means straightforward bits of kit and while ostensibly plug and play; thus was not my experience. Plug and get quite frustrated…BUT tech support were verging on god-like. Spent quite a bit of time working through both units. And after some trial and loads of errors figured both units running different firmware versions and not syncing with router. Some wholesale reflashing etc. And one year later and they are solid.Ballistic speeds all round tricky property.Worth the effort and no regrets!

Intermittent Faults,
Setup before purchase Draytek Router, Draytek AP903 and Rukus AP. Works well. Figured I would replace my old Rukus AP with a draytek 902 so i can mange from the router with long term plan of moving to a mesh setup.Setup with the rj45 method and as wifi repeater. Intermittent issues. Would not allocate IP, would not always connect to SSID. Its own speed test was reading approx 7mb both ways. This was with rj45 or as a repeater. Even when connected direct with a short lead to the router, also tried various network cables. Gone back to old AP, all work fine as before.

Very easy to deploy as a mesh WiFi Access Point
Low profile, compact product, plugs discretely into mains socket. Very easy to deploy as a mesh node from a mesh route (I have a VigorAP 912c access point as mesh route wired back to Vigor2762 router). Back part of house that didn't receive wifi signal now gets plenty. Check with WiFi app that where you are placing the 802 can receive a strong enough signal from your router or access point to re-broadcast. I used the free WiFiSweetSpots app on iphone. I couldn't get the 802 to operate as a wiFi extender but mesh mode was a breeze.

Technical support non existent
I installed one of these a while back and it worked perfectly. I wanted to expand the network by adding an additional unit. Despite the instructions saying no manual setup needed, just plug in and it would configure itself , it did not work- refused to connect. I tried to contact Drayteck technical support for 4 days but just got put on hold . In the end I gave up and returned the unit to the seller.

Update the Firmware to the latest
I am a fan of Draytk products but what a b@ll ache this device came with initial Firmware 1.3.1I used it as an AP but going from one area to another and back again lost the Gateway. Looks like it was a firmware issue with DHCP.Finally got the latest 1.4.8 firmware uploaded after an hour of trying and now works a dream.Cheap powerful unit but you need to be a techy to force the damn firmware update. I thought i bricked the devices to be honest but thankfully mine works great now.

Build a powerful and secure mesh network in minutes...
A great addition to the Draytek range. We have a 'difficult' property from a WiFi perspective, both in terms of floor area, but also building materials used.Deploying this new Draytek technology, quickly and easily solved the issues that other products have failed with i.e. poor coverage. Setup was really easy, using the app, adding a root and 4 nodes. Operational within minutes of starting, and powerful dual band AC capability everywhere. So far really impressed...

Garbage product
I have been a systems engineer since the 1990s, been using Draytek products for decades. This unit is not fit for purpose - yes my 2862 is fully updated, yes I flashed the 802 firmware to latest. This permitted it to actually get setup, ostensibly, but in mesh, extender, or pure AP nothing would connect reliably, the PSK got mangled, and the final straw is that it can only carry 2 SSIDs (I use 3 of the potential 4 on my 2862). Simply not fit for purpose - such a disappointment from Draytek. Contemplating whether to go for a Vigor903, 912C or 1000c as a replacement. You get what you pay for, I guess. Don't waste your money or time on the 802.

complete waste of time
Purchased to extend my home network for which I also need multi SSID support. Setup seemed OK if a little clunky.Set up in Mesh mode with a Draytek 2862AC (which acts as a mesh root)However, once moving it to where it needed to be, it would not even pick up the wireless signal (despite other devices showing 60%) Then tested as a wired uplink - stays connected for all of 10 minutes before dropping out again.Clearly this has the potential to be really quite useful, but is so unreliable and frustrating, even for someone technical like me. I imagine non-techy people to be even more frustrated.I firmly believe the firmware is the problem and once this is sorted it could be good - however i'm not going to wait that long and these problems should not occur. Tech support are basically useless too.
