Franzis Electronic Bat Detector Kit

This just arrived, and I opened it up eagerly and proceeded to try to put it together. The instructions are absolutely unspeakable. They warn you helpfully that if you make the connections the wrong way round, you'll break it. But then they don't show what's the right way round.Went to YouTube hoping to find an online video, but nope; there are some, but they're for earlier kits that require soldering.Is there an understandable set of instructions anywhere?

The media could not be loaded. This is an easy to assemble kit that works surprisingly well given the price. The construction is flimsy, but good enough for the purpose if you do not rough-handle it.Basically, a cardboard box and a few elements (preassembled circuit board; ultrasound microphone; speaker; and clip for 9V battery; plus material to fix the knobs to the box).Assembly takes only a few minutes without need for soldering (but see below). You'll need some glue (to glue the microphone to the box), a small wrench to tighten the small nuts that secure the dials and a small screwdriver to attach the knobs to the dials. For kids, some adult supervision is probably recommended when assembling it.Quality control could be better. The kit arrived with one of the wires from the speaker detached, so I had to re-solder that. That done, it was very easy to assemble it, apart from the correct connection of the microphone, which initially puzzled me and could have been described clearer in the manual (the photographin the manual is the clearest clue: they should have marked the microphone itself). Also, the loose batterij in the box (no way to fix it - have to think of something myself) is far from ideal.Took it out along the canal that same evening and quickly picked up the echolocation of common pipistrelle bats (see video).

Die aufgeklebte Lautsprecherhalterung lag lose in der Schachtel, so daß ich erst den alten Klebstoff entfernen und die Halterung aus Pappe neu anklieben mußte. Die drei Stecker an die Platine anzustecken ist keine Kunst; auch die beiden Stecker am Mikrophon sind schnell gesteckt (hier muß laut Anleitung die Polarität beachtet werden, was auch nicht schwer ist). Eine Halterung für die benötigte 9-Volt-Batterie ist nicht vorhanden. Schon genial einfach ist es die entsprechen bedruckte Schachtel als Gehäuse des Fledermausdetektors zu verwenden. Alle benötigrten Löcher sind bereits vorhanden. Um die Schalter der Potentiometer festzuziehen benötigt man die Schlüsselweite 10 mm.Das Teil ist in wenigen Minuten fertig montiert und funktionierte auch auf Anhieb, den optimalen Frequenzbereich kann man der beiliegenden Anleitung folgen noch einstellen.Ich war überrascht, wieviel hochfrequenter Lärm z. B. von manchen Energiesparlampen emittiert wird.Leider fehlen mir jetzt noch die Fledermäuse.Wegen der losen Lautsprecherhalterung ein Punktabzug. Es handelt sich um kein professionelles Gerät, sondern um ein einfaches und preisgünstiges, aber durchaus funktionstüchtiges "Spielzeug", mit dem man Fledermäuse vorausgesetzt viel Spaß haben kann.
