All Fired Up

I've been an admirer of Johnny Hiland's playing since 2013. He's full of technique and draws from both rock and country. I'm very happy when he releases anything. I'll take it! The music industry has become a tough gig even for the listener when it comes to finding real talent. Cheers all!

Thought I would like it, but if you are only listening to Hiland, it gets old and noisy real quick. I love WATCHING him play. I bought this to support an artist I liked through YouTube videos. But his compositions were... so repetitive... notes were thrown in every direction. His legato is superb, but the songs themselves are nothing new.

What a joy to listen to such a melodious collection of tunes by a smooth, clean-playing guitar god. There is beauty, speed, variety and great song writing aplenty. What a fun experience, on par with the 5-star Johnny Hiland cd of 2004. Johnny's approach makes his greatness so appealing. This collection sounds better each time around.

I hoped to hear some great music and learn from it. I did hear some amazing guitar styling and techniques, incredible speed and cleanliness, and considerable creativity. I also learned that, as a guitar player myself, there are people of excellence in most areas of performance that have talents exceeding the usual human abilities. I think Mr Hiland is one of those that reaches the category of "super" human guitar player.

I loved this album the first time I listened to it, and the songs only get better with every listen. The speed, range, and cleanliness of Johnny Hiland's playing is unbelievable. If you are interested in chicken-picking, don't hesitate to buy this album. If you are a guitarist or just respect great guitar work, don't hesitate to buy this album. Can't wait for his next album.

johnny hiland is a great guitarist, he plays some cool chicken pickin licks and his songsseem to really progress. I get kind of a danny gatton vibe in his playin.very cool!!!!

This dvd is awesome. I wished I had one of Johnny live on stage...absolutely awesome. Chicken picking at it's best.

Johnny plays all his pieces at 100mph which is impressive but a bit tiresome. There's no doubt he's an extremely talented guitarist but as a musician I think he needs to be in someone else's band. I think he could turn up on stage at any big concert and give a truly memorable country/rock/blues/jazz solo. The band's lead guitarist would need to put his ego away for a while and let Johnny give him a lesson in speed and accuracy.

I'm a huge fan. I was disappointe with the cd after seeing all the live stuff on youtube. Great country guitar playing, but a bit sterile. Like Robben ford on a studio blues record. Live he's waay better. Maybe Johnny shouldn't use billy sheehan on the bass anymore and Vai shouldn't be involved anymore. Both I love and respect, but this is not their field of expertise.

I had a recommendation from a friend who praised Johnny Hiland for Virtuoso technique on the guitar. I was sure the Music would be a good travel companion on a trip to my step parents in Oregon. Picking up a rental car in San Francisco there was a lot of traffic to Sacramento. Once on Highway Nr. 5 things eased off, it was time for Music. The CD Cover is an understatement, listen to Johnny play the guitar its well worthwhile. My personal perception was that the scenery of northern California and the music enhanced each other. Big Thanks to Johnny.

Wie in der Vorgängerezension fällt auch mir bei der CD nur der Begriff "klinisch" ein. Technisch excellent, guter sound der CD und das unaufhörliche Gefühl weiterzuzappen in der Hoffnung irgendetwas zu finden, was sich im Ohr festsetzt. Es ist Schade, denn technisch ist Johnny Hiland hervorragend, passenderweise hatte er ja seine ErstlingsCD auf Steve Vais Label herausgebracht und da passt es halt hin , technische hervorragende Instrumentalisten.Wer die Art von Musik Rock, Blues,Country instrumental vorgetragen mag, sollte dann aber halt doch besser auf die grossartigen Werke von Danny Gatton zurückgreifen, ... technisch legt Danny noch ne Schippe drauf und spannender ist es allemal.
