Written is a way kids can understand and appreciate
In one book I read about the Civil War, it was noted that, at one time, America had two Presidents. This was during the Civil War when the nation was divided on the issue of slavery. The pro-slavery side, the Confederate States, wanted to keep slavery legal. The anti-slavery side, the Union, wanted to abolish slavery. Abraham Lincoln, an advocate against slavery, was President of the Union side, and Jefferson Davis was President of the Confederate States. This book shared information about these men, as well as other key historical figures of the Civil War.What Was America’s Deadliest War? And other questions about…The Civil War, which is part of the Good Question! series of books for kids, was penned by Martin W. Sandler. It is written is a way kids can understand and appreciate. It doesn’t go too heavily into the details of the Civil War, but it does give some background and why the war started. It shares why the Civil War was indeed America’s deadliest war (and not just because of the war itself) and how father fought against son, brother against brother, all in the name of slavery. While I was disappointed this book did not include Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address in entirety, I felt it included some good information about the Civil War which kids can put to use in school. What Was America’s Deadliest War? And other questions about…The Civil War is an informative book kids can read if they have questions about the Civil War. Filled with attractive illustrations and other interesting facts about the Civil War, this is a book readers young and old can appreciate and it is a good addition to anyone’s collection of Civil War books.Review by: DawnColclasure of Night Owl ReviewsDisclosure: Most books that Night Owl reviews are received courtesy of the publisher, author or publicist.
