Dream Animals: A Bedtime Journey

10 stars! By far the best bedtime book we've found, and we have at least 40 on rotation. Very few make it into the top 4 slots that are read nearly every night. So far this book has been requested each night and ONLY this book. We read it 4-5 times and she spends minutes gazing at the incredibly magical artwork on each page. Today she re-created the under-the-sea mermaid tea party dreamscape! (see photo)Emily Martin is our new beloved author and illustrator! My husband is an artist in the film/animation industry (also writer) and he was wowed by her work and in awe. The ultimate judge though, is our daughter, who is 2 and 4 months. Good bedtime story with very beautiful illustrations. The only downside is that there is one scene of the story talking about circuses. This make me debating whether I should read the book to my baby.To my mind, I don’t like people training animals to act like human or to entertain human. Especially people usually doing that by force.

One of our daughter's favorites at 14 months old, the art in this book is whimsical and fun and the reason to buy this book; she keeps turning back to a few of the illustrations and admires them even at this age.The writing has a very good tempo that keeps our daughter's interest throughout the book with cute rhymes that serve the art just enough so as not to detract from it. The book itself is sturdy and durable. Between this and Day Dreamers (one of the author's other creations), we have had daily staples for reading that keep everyone entertained. I can't thank the author enough for creating such wonderful children's books and sincerely hope she keeps creating these gems.

We read this to our three month old nearly every night before bed. He loves the illustrations (his eyes get big and he smiles on his favorite pages!) and he also loves the sing-song rhythm of the rhyming text. It's perfect. The author has included details in the images that show off her knowledge of the real biology of animals as well (did you see the mermaid purse in the mermaid tea party?). Great book.

I want to live in the magical worlds in this book. The artwork is amazing, whimsical, gorgeous. I am wondering if Winfield-Martin offers prints, because I want them all over my baby's room. The book itself is beautifully made as well. The interior pages are super glossy and the cover is a textured combo of glossy and matte.I feel like I am reading a book of magic secrets when I read this book to my daughter.

....by my new favorite artist. I am not sure how I found this book, came across it one day looking at books here on amazon. I adore children's books that are beautifully illustrated, I collected them before my children were born and have continued to since. We have a wonderful collection, and I tend to prefer older stories, yet this new book stands out as one of the very best. It is simple, it is beautiful, it is a perfect bedtime or anytime story. In it, you see rather plain images of a child sleeping with their beloved stuffed tiger or their bird mobile followed by lovely images of their bedtime animal leading them through their dreams. Children can easily be engaged throughout the simple story, by asking about where their own bedtime friends will take them, and how (and if they are like mine maybe each night they have a different favorite animal!) My children love to look at these pictures and point out what they see and think. For anyone who truly adores the artwork in this book, since discovering it I have found her online and on etsy (she is the best selling artist ever on etsy, and the artwork in this book is available there).

My daughter and I are always looking for wonderful new books to read. We read most books a couple of times and then she wants to move onto the next, but this book is different. I purchased this for her birthday because of the adorable illustrations. My daughter and I both adore this book and read it almost nightly. The story is so magical and has yet to get old. The author does all her own illustrations as well, which makes the book even more beautiful in my mind. We will definitely be buying this book to gift to other little kids, and will be purchasing more from this author.

No doubt this book has beautiful illustrations, however I was disappointed when I came across the page depicting circus animals. I know the artist meant well and it is a children’s fantasy book, but this is something I feel strongly against. As most of us may know, circus animals endure a lot of horrible cruelty to preform. I’d rather not teach my child that a circus that uses animals for entertainment is happy or fun. For this reason I will be returning the book, it’s just not for us.

The illustrations are beautiful!!

This book is incredibly beautiful; the drawings and the words flow with such ease, it feels like a magical journey. Loved by me and my toddler at bedtime, she loves to choose which dream animal we would each have.

The book is beautuful and engaging for a 3yo as well as the parents. However, the covers of the book I received were damaged. This is a pitty since this book has such beautiful covers it can also be used to decorate a toddler's room.

Beautiful unusual book, really gorgeous illustrations and a lovely bedtime story. Really pleased to have found this gem!
