My son read the book over the summer and we went through this guide as he did. We both learned so much. It is NOT necessary to read the book with your child/student. You can choose to do some or all of the written work. This story of injustice and perseverance opened my son to learn about Tulsa, Selma, Brown v Board of Education, and the greatest civil rights leaders in our history. This literature guide is well worth the money spent.

I love the breakdown of chapters. It made it easier for my son to learn the vocabulary and think about how each character contributed to the story.
