The Lost Night (Rainshadow Series Book 1)

Nice Fantasy/Sci-fi
I love this author. You are guaranteed to enjoy the thrill without the horror of some stories. As usual with her stories of her mythical places, this one is full of mystery and mystical places and folks who have various talents, abilities, and senses. There is still the good guys and the bad guys but you can be sure to find a happy ending along with love and romance with a fiery twist of power. The heroine and hero are very easy to like also. The talented, adorable, and ferocious dust bunny pets are just perfect!

I'd Rate This One a 4.25
THE LOST NIGHT is the first book in the Rainshadow series (although CANYONS OF NIGHT introduces the island and operates as prequel to the series). Rainshadow Island is on the planet of Harmony (this book is also the ninth book about that earth colony) and has an intense paranormal energy about it.Harry Sebastian has a frightening paranormal talent that caused his wife to leave him after only three weeks of marriage. He comes to Rainshadow Island because something is going wrong on the island. There is an area known as the Preserve where strange things are happening. Harry is the descendant of a pirate and one of the first explorers of the island. His family is responsible for the Preserve and so he has come to see what is going on.Rachel Blake has come to Rainshadow because she was being stalked by a psychic vampire. Although she feels a bit of misfit in the outside world, she has found a place operating the bookstore and cafe on the island. She had an incident where she was in the Preserve and lost 12 hours of her life. That has made her afraid of herself in some ways. When Harry arrives on the island, she is his prime suspect and being an aura talent she is strong armed by Harry into helping with his investigation. This book is a futuristic paranormal romantic suspense. There is a nice balance between the suspense aspects of the story dealing with the mystery in the Preserve and the man stalking Rachel and the romance between Rachel and Harry.Rachel and Harry are an interesting match. They have a great adventure together and it brings out their personal insecurities. I like stories when the characters have weaknesses that are softened by their relationship. I really liked Harry because he is a strong man with personal demons because of his talent. Rachel is strong despite her fear that she is not. Their romance is intense and happens quickly. There is nice humor in the book added by the dust bunny Darwina. As with all dust bunnies, she plays an important role in the story as a companion to Rachel.Good addition to the series.

Dainty
I am so tired of you heroine being dainty, small, tiny little. You have to be aware that most females mature past the age of puberty Physically ! What's with the red, or with red hair, and the green eyes? Expand you horizons , and write about different looking heroines .

Worth a second read
I love JAK, in all of pseudonyms, and this was another solid, if already done book. We see a little of the ties in the Lantern Street series (Quick) and a few name dropping appearances from some of the more solid Castle books but while the characters are aware of Arcane they are not part of Arcane. The second book in the Rainshadow Island series, I'm growing a little tired of the (admittingly at first cute) dust bunnies. If the things are so common that most protagonists have 1 if not a matched pair why does every. single. villain. feel the need to ask, "What is that thing!" when confronted with one.I did have to go back and read the preceding book, Canyons of the Night, to fill in a few gaps which, for me, is indicative of me skimming these books and not reading as thoroughly as I have others. Might be growing bored with the redone plotlines.

The Lost Night
Jayne Ann Krentz writes as Jayne Castle in this futuristic, paranormal romance-adventure. This is the first of the "Rainshadow Island" series. However, as the last book of the "Looking Glass Trilogy" takes place there, that's debatable. The plot here also brings in the Sebastian family and three paranormally powerful stones. They show up in "Crystal Garden," the first of the "Ladies of Lantern Street" series, set in a much earlier time period and written under her other pen name of Amanda Quick. OK, now that the book relationships are set... The book is devoted to figuring out what's causing the growth of the dark energy that threatens the island and who is involved with it. This is in addition to the growing relationship between Sebastian and the lady bookstore owner. The Preserve is a dangerous area, but Sebastian's family treasure, once buried there for safety, is missing and they have to find it. Also involved is a violent sociopath who is fixated on the book store owner. Thrills, chills, and romance, something for everyone..

The Lost Night
I greatly enjoyed this book. Harry and Rachel are a good couple. They blend well together. I also liked the mystery in this story. The series has good flow. This is definitely a series to be read in order. The dust bunnies are a big part of the stories and provide humor as well as intensity. I look forward to the next book.

Spectacular!!
This series has become one of my favorite series.. I am reading it for the third time. This author has given us a unique picture of what the future could hold for us. Simply, a curtain opens that allows space travel, and homes on other worlds. When the curtain suddenly closes, the travelers are stuck in a new world where the excitement and mystery begins..if you like mystery, action and romance plus a cute little pet called a Dust Bunny, you should really enjoy these books.

love this author, collect her work
Jayne Castle (aka Jayne Krentz) is no longer writing this series, but I plan to re-read them all. They are THAT good. She also writes as Amanda Quick & I collect her work under all 3 names.

Easy reading
Another in the harmony series. While its not essential I would recommend reading JCs books in roughly the right order. I find them easy and fast reading, the world building is very good and harks back to series written under a number of pen names. They are all worth a look if you want an undemanding mystery romance.

Harmony paranormal
Rachel Bonner owner and proprietor of the bookstore and cafe on Rainshadow and her dust bunny Darwina meet Harry Sebastian the security specialist with Sebastian Inc. whose family own The Preserve on the Island. They work together to solve the problem of The Preserve. Good book I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to all.

Great Follow-on book
I loved the first Rainshadow Island book, Canyons of Night and this second in the series is just as good. I liked the way she brought in characters from the first book and fit them together with new ones to make it all flow seamlessly. Another gripping plot with romance as well. I look forward to the next one!
