Hank III is back with his highly anticipated album, Damn Right, Rebel Proud.

Punk-country hybrid that pushes the boundaries further!
I loved "Straight To Hell". Here it may appear to be more of the same. However Hank III adds a bit more punk into the mix on DRRP.The album starts off with a well-placed shot at the Grand Ole Opry and their poor treatment of Hank William Sr.'s legacy . While some may say that it's just another "been there, done that" salvo from Hank III against the establishment I can understand where he's coming from. For I know of similar scumbags in another business entirely who are willing to craft a false image and profit off of others' work. Hence, Hank Williams still isn't reinstated while they keep his likeness outside their door. From there it's just one great song after another. There's much to appreciate about this album that doesn't have an over-produced feel. The instruments actually sound lively and not compressed. There is a lot of breathing room for the sound to develop. And what more can be said about the GG Allin tribute, "P.F.F." Actually it's more like two tracks together as one of the same track: One at very high tempo with the full band and the other half being a slowed-down acoustic version, with each separated by a soundbite from GG Allin himself.Four tracks, "Wild & Free", "Six Pack Of Beer", "If You Can't Help Your Own" and "Workin Man" are true anthems for us who work for a living. Two more, "Candidate For Suicide" and "Stoned & Alone", capture the essence of melancholy with the former wry and somewhat exaggerated while the latter being slow and deliberate in getting the feel of feeling down and alone just right. "H8 Line" is downright sinister in its own right while "3 Shades Of Black" is a bit more stripped down in production and serves as a dark anthem for Hank 3 and his friends ("Me & My Friends" is by far more upbeat). "I Wish I Knew" is a great song about a breakup, a perfect song for real country radio as hinted at on his "Lovesick Broke & Driftin'" album. This is a great followup to "Straight To Hell" . As someone who has witnessed his evolution from merely being the son of Hank Williams Jr. for the sake of "brand recognition" on the "Three Hanks" album to this I can't wait to see what else he can do with his own style of country music. This is very exciting stuff!Note that I'm reviewing the uncensored version . There are no bleeps to be found here. :-) I pity anyone who buys the redacted WallyWorld version (it's cute how they used the euphemism "amended" for "censored"): You aren't getting the full album!

Why review music
why would people care about the type and how much I like an album I bought. Music is so different to each person. I wish I could get out of getting emails to review movies and music. I want to review products I buy here but if I delete an email for review of music I'll keep getting them until I review the music. If you want to know if you like music listen to it before buying it.

With lyrics like that, how does this county CD not get ...
The Devils pouring drinks and his daughter needs a ride...With lyrics like that, how does this county CD not get a high rating. Hank III, especially on this CD plays country music how it is supposed to be played. If you like today's pop country, this CD is not for you, but if you like old fashioned country married to today's upbeat sounds and life's experiences told in a real and fun way, this is must own music for the collection.

Christmas gift for the old man
My husband is a big Hank III fan so I got him two of his cd's for Christmas this year. As far as I can tell he's been listening to them constantly since he opened them. So I would have to say he loves them. And I do too. Even if you're not a huge fan of country music you might try these albums out. It's different then most country you've heard but in a good way.

Great album. My favorite song is Working Man
Great album. My favorite song is Working Man. There is an awesome acoustic version of only Hank 3 on guitar and another on a banjo, you can watch it on Youtube.

Great album!
This is a great album. Not quite as good as Straight to hell, but that one is a classic so its hard to compare. I can't see how any one could like Hank III and not like this album.

Freedom of speech in music
Ain't for everyone I'm sure someone out there hates this but for me its good to listen to and believe me I love a variety in music, Hank 3's music fills in a gap that I've been missing, freedom of speech and cold hard trut nothing like a slap in the face
