Alumicolor Aluminum Engineer Pocket Scale With Clip, 6IN, Black

Wow am I an idiot! This thing is just tiny!
OK so firstly being an older type person and a bit nostalgic, I've been trying to go back to analogue days - rather than doing network and construction designs digital from step 1, doing a quick draft on paper first - it's more about focusing on the design first and not being distracted by the technology.Important for me was that anything I have is marked with metric. My first port of call was Staedtler Engineer 12 inch / 60 cm ruler (987M1834BK) which I picked up for cheap money - a little over 6 bucks on special. That's a full size ruler which is easy to hold and easy to read. Solid too - you could fend off a cougar with this thing. When I saw this "pocket" ruler on special for 2 bucks, I thought it would be a useful addition - slightly smaller. Now here's where I'm kind of chuckling - it came in the post today in a large Amazon bubble wrap envelop and I literally couldn't tell there was anything in it, it is that small! I always sighed when I saw reviews from people complaining about things when all they had to do was read the description first. Well today I am that man! In this case however, no complaints - it's my own damn fault, but man is this thing small! For me I suspect it won't be that useful - the scale, although being nice contrast white on black, is much smaller than my Staedtler so much harder to read. Also physically it is much harder to pick up, move and hold in place - even pinching around it is difficult and it's not because I have bananas for fingers. So lesson learnt for me - this is what "pocket" truly means. Honestly, for 2 bucks no worries, but my full size Staedtler is much more usable from a desk environment. Only get a pocket ruler if you really, really need that compact size.Update: Just realised why this was on special - some nefarious geezer had previously returned it whilst simultaneously forgetting to both include the clip and notify Amazon of same. So in essence my 2 buck deal was a "partial success". Double Bah Humbug!hth Dingo

Small tri-sided pocket sized ruler. I use for crafts and sewing.
This style is easy to move about to draw lines while sewing smaller projects and items that need marking here and there and now and again. So super accuracy is not a big thing. However I was hoping it would be super accurate for photo work another side line of mine is macro photography and I do mean mini things. Think as small as pollen and itty almost hard to see seeds. Finding a good measurement guide for that work is difficult. Often you think you have a scientific ruler or properly marked slide in mm and oh no the ruler is also blown up and shows every single fault the lines drawn or painted or etched and can be frustrating to say the least. So this one is not ideal for the tiny macro photo work. But I bought it for sewing and for that it is great but may be a bit small for some. I also at same time bought a 4 inch version which has much bigger sides so it's not nearly as tiny. However this one's slider allows me to keep track of a measurement guide that allows me to say move it from one item to another that needs the same length measured out. So all in all I give it clearly a 5 star thumbs up.Now could someone at Amazon explain why in the review section it would ask to rate 1 to 5 stars Sheerness for this product. It's not a sheer item in anyway or see through window or anything at all related to SHEERNESS? I've been running into some very odd ratings lately for products and often wonder if Amazon is attempting to mess up reviewers or throw them out. But they better be careful because some folks are going to see this as a means to be FUNNY. I skipped the sheerness category but had to mention how silly it was to appear with a solid aluminum ruller. Stay safe and well and look for HUMOR we all need that.

POCKET SIZE!!!
OH MAN did I fall over laughing when I opened this thing up today. It’s so tiny. It’s my own fault because I read “pocket size” and just didn’t even think about it. I don’t know why I thought this thing was going to be normal size and “6 inches” made it magically fit in a pocket but I did. It’s the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen honestly.BUT it’s actually crystal clear and feels solid for its size. It’s definitely not a bad purchase just be aware that “pocket size” literally means this thing could fit in your pocket!

Collectible Tiny Rulers
These tiny rulers will be a great addition to my tiny ruler collection. The profile is lower than I expected and can be a little bit difficult to pick up from the table. The material quality is all aluminum and feels nice to hold. I expect that the numbers and markings may wear off with heavy use, but these make an excellent collection piece. I bought three of them and will probably buy the other colors again.

Compact engineering metric scale
I like this compact engineering metric scale for draft. I used this to sketch out the layout of the bathroom floor to plan the tile placement quite accurately. All of my cuts were within about 1cm of the plan. The scale was lightweight and solid aluminum construction and easy to read high contrast markings. This size worked great when drawing in my letter sized notebook.

Too small to be useful
Yes, this is a 6" ruler. Knew that going in. But the height of the ruler is ridiculously small. Can barely read the numbers. These triangular rulers are typically known for being large and easy to read. Yes, it is aluminum, but it is so thin that I have to be careful handling it to not bend it.

Too small to be practical
It's a lot harder to use a scale ruler this small than it is to use a full-size one. This one is hard to hold in place and hard to read.

Pleased all around.
I bought this to accompany another Alumicolor 6" scale I have had for over a decade. At the time of ordering I was curious about how the quality might have changed over the decade but I had nothing to worry about as it is a fine product. Most importantly the lines and measurements are clearly defined and easily readable. One of the best things is the capped plastic tube they come packed it. Being only slightly larger then the scale themselves I recommend keeping it on hand to store your scale when not in use. It will protect it from dings and scratches keeping it accurate and like new for years to come!
