Valuing the Things That Matter
Giving one to each of my grandkids, who are all completely tied to their cell phones. Although the dollar amounts may seem a little odd and the situation different, the approach taken to determining success in life holds a valuable lesson for us all. Byrd and Peter have produced another little gem here.

Beautiful book; Different Seller
The book deserves 5+ stars; the seller deserves a 2. This is a wonderful book. The message and the illustrations alike are profoundly beautiful. However, my copy from this seller arrived a little beat up and bent, cover and pages alike. Multiple creases and nearly bent spine. It looks more like a used library book than a new copy. For someone who takes great care of my books, I'm very disappointed in this.

This made me re-evaluate my priorities...
I checked this book out for my son (4.5 y.o.) at my college's library, and every day since I brought it home, he has wanted me to read it to him. I love this story, personally, because it not only reflects my own values so perfectly, but it has served as a reminder of the really Important Things in life.Money isn't what counts ~ it's the sunrise... the colors of the shadows on mountains... the feel of squash on hands dusty with earth... the stretch of blue sky overhead. I cannot think of a book that better illustrates these than The Table Where Rich People Sit.

Grandkids enjoyed this story
Purchased for grandkids to read. First they thought it would be about wealthy people. They enjoyed the evaluations of what the people in the story felt was important in their lives. They also enjoyed how the children were named/nicknamed and picked reative nicknames for themselves.

Five Stars
this will be a book I read every year. I may even give a copy to others as gifts.

A bit like brown pasta
You know it's worthy and good for you, but you just can't warm to it. It's so sincerely homespun and well-meaning, but not to my taste. I largely agree with the concept (doing what makes you happy in beautiful surroundings is as valuable as material wealth) but I found the delivery somewhat clunky, and the author's use of actual monetary values feels heavy-handed. I bought it on the strength of the reviews for my five-year-old, but didn't give it to her in the end.

Too wordy
I have other Byrd Baylor books, and was surprised how much more wordy this one is. I was looking for something for a storytime, and it is too long.
