Introduction to AI Robotics, second edition (Intelligent Robotics and Autonomous Agents series)

I recommend this book to everyone I met in the robotics world. First of all, Dr. Murphy is a world-leading expert in robotics, and is the director for the Center for Robot Assisted Search and Rescue, and a professor at Texas A&M. Her robotics knowledge is first hand, and hands-on. This book provides an excellent foundation for any robotics practitioner. Her explanations are clear and precise, making the text easy to follow. The sections on path planning are excellent (I particularly like the section on Potential Fields). Her section on Dempster Schafer theory is the clearest explanation I've ever seen of this complex and critical sensor fusion technique. A great book, an entertaining read, and a great reference for the fundamental concepts behind robotics.
