easy and effective
I bought this to stop my dog from digging underneath an existing wood fence. I only needed to do a short section adjoining the yard of a neighbor with another dog. This was very easy to install with just a screwdriver and a hammer. I accidentally touched it and got quite a zap. It has been an effective deterrent for my dog. The only issue I had was something many reviewers have addressed - that the plug and the power unit are not weather resistant. Im hoping to be able to disconnect the power soon anyway after my dog learns to stay away from the fence. For me, this product was perfect - not expensive, easy to put up, and solved my.problem

Glad I read your reviews! This is a terrific product!
I have 3 large dogs and purchased a home that was professionally landscaped for a television show. They went all out, and did a great job- then we moved in and I needed a way to keep my pets from getting into the flower beds. I purchased one fence kit initially and it worked so well I purchased a second for another segment of yard that was too far apart to piggyback on the first fence. My dogs don't even need the fence on anymore- getting zapped once did it for them. Its a bit tedious for weed eating and mowing, but worth it in that the landscaping is intact and I can stop worrying about them digging up the sprinklers underground. This fence surrounds backyard plant beds and does a great job- my largest dog is a mastiff and it works to deter him too- give it a shot!

Great product! Easy set up!
We have a lab mix that likes to explore, and a mastiff puppy (over 100 lbs. at 10 months) that wants to follow. We also have a small dog. Aside from the problems of the dogs jumping the wall and exploring the neighborhood we worried that they could be badly hurt coming off an almost 6 foot high block wall... We wanted something that would dissuade the big dogs from the wall but not risk hurting the small dog with a big shock... They have now all been zapped (none seem at all injured, just surprised) by the fence and all stay well clear of the fence (run just inside the perimeter of the wall) now... We have even been able to put the dog door back in so they can use the yard at will... Set up was super easy. At first we thought this thing is really weak because we could put a finger on the fence and all we felt was a weak pulse... We though there was no way this thing would dissuade anything... I added a second ground thinking because our sandy/rocky soil maybe the ground was insufficient. Then I hear a yelp and our lab goes running into the house! So I am thinking, how is that weak pulse scaring him away? It occurred to me then... My shoes! Sure enough, the shoes insulated me enough that all I felt was this weak pulse... I took off a shoe and touched the fence and BANG! LOL I got a great laugh out of that nice powerful shock! So before this fence when the neighbors dogs would come into their backyard our dogs would be almost unstoppable in wanting to get to or even over the wall... Now even if the neighbors dogs are talking (barking) to ours... Our dogs wont go near the fence!

Not worth the money, please read!
Don't waste your money. It is much cheaper to buy a fence charger and buy your own wire. This kit is cheaply made and the charger does not even work. The posts that it comes with is nothing more than pvc with holes drilled in it. They will not go into the ground without digging a whole first because they have no pointed end to be staked into the ground. This kit also does not come with enough wire to fence in a normal sized yard. Unless you live in a town home with a mini sized yard you will wind up spending more on wire. I followed the directions exactly and even watched the youtube video on how to set this thing up and it still does not work. Also don't forget this charger is NOT meant to be used outside. You will either have to build a box or shelter for it or hang it somewhere it will not get rained on. You would think if it is meant to charge outdoor fences it would be weather proof but it is not. It is very disappointing since by the time I was able to purchase more wire, build a box to cover the stupid charger, dig holes and install the poles and wire, the time to return the thing had lapsed so now i'm stuck with all this wire a few crappy poles and a charger not worth anything. Another thing to note is until you have everything set up i.e poles wire etc it is very hard to tell if the charger is working unless you want to touch it to test it out or have a electrical tester!

It works, but it's a pain to set up!
I found this product very difficult and annoying to install. The included length of aluminum wire is quite stiff, which makes threading the PVC pipes annoying. Far more disturbing is the amount of aluminum that transferred from the wire to my hands during the installation. At first I thought this wasn't working - I'd left the Havahart live trap out and baited even after installing the fence as an added security measure, but when I released the groundhog I'd caught into the yard and it ran through the fence (brushing solidly against the wire) it didn't look like it was affected. Suspicious, I touched the wire... it produced barely a tingle. I checked the light, and sure enough - it was blinking merrily (the manual says that blinking is an indication of proper working order). So I began thumbing through the manual and came to the page talking about the two-wire design for operating in areas with dry ground. Unfortunately, that design won't work on groundhogs because they slink along the ground (the animal would have to touch both wires), so that was a bust. I decided to check the ground rod to see if the ground here is simply too dry and found the rod nice and moist from our deep clay soil. Giving up in disgust, I went inside to post a one-star-in-lieu-of-zero review when I had a revelation - groundhogs don't wear thick, rubber-soled shoes.Works well enough once you take your shoes off, but it gets only three stars because of the annoying setup.

I like it!
After failed try of the Yard Sentinel Dual to keep Racoon away, I purchesed and installed this. To my surprise, this worked well and I'm free of racoon problem!
