For very-fine precision stripping, Paladin is the one!
I have been an professional designer for over 50 years and a college professor, and have seen every wire-stripper under the sun. I've used everything including my teeth when I was a kid without strippers! There have been only a very-few strippers that have actually performed well with 28&30ga. wire, with most being unaffordable outside of a production environment. I have most-all the common brands like Klein, Hakko, Ideal etc. None of them perform even close to the Paladin stripper; and for the money, they just cannot be beat. I have used 3-pairs of these Paladin-strippers and they all work identically (which is amazing) and have a smooth action and perfectly strip the first time. One of the hardest jobs for a stripper, is that of doing point-to-point wiring and a (Vector-style) perf-board where you have soldered one end of say a 24-30ga. wire, and you need to cut and strip (to an exact length) the other end without either pulling all the insulation off or breaking the wire loose from the first connection-point. You need to have several things: First, the stripper has to be small enough to get close enough; Second, once you get the stripper around the wire, you want a clean-cut with very little force being applied to the wire; Lastly, you do not want the remaining insulation moving. These Paladin strippers do all of the above at a really good price. There is one thing I want to caution ALL people working with the newer-style LEDs, resistors, capacitors and some semiconductors. That is, (being so made cheaply) these component leads are not necessarily made from tinned copper but contain ferrous-metals (steel etc.) and are a LOT harder and will damage most all precision cutters as they are made to be malleable (to prevent breakage) and therefore are softer than dedicated cutters. You can test this by using a magnet; if it attracts the component then is is not a pure copper-wire that has a tin-coating! So, do not use these to cut these ferrous-containing component-leads.It is OK to cut the wire you are stripping but not components! I find that LEDs are the absolute worst!Anyway, I have trained many of my students in prototyping-practices and as soon as I let them use these, it is self-evident even to a novice that these strippers are really excellent. So buy these Paladin strippers, you'll really like them!

A quality wire stripper
I needed a stripper for 30 gauge wire. I am very pleased with these strippers on several levels. They do a clean job of cutting the insulation on the wire without nicking the wire. They also work well as wire cutters. I am very pleased with the overall quality of these strippers. They are an excellent tool for wire stripping the gauges that the tool is designed to strip. I would recommend the Paladin Tools PA1118 Wire Stripper Tool and Wire Cutter 20-30 AWG to others. Definitely a quality tool for any tool box.

Exactly what you needed
The difference between this and the adjustable closure tool I was using is immense. Better, more accurate wire size fitting. More comfortable grip. Just quicker and easier all around.

Great for super fine wire
This was the only wire stripper I could find that goes to 30 AWG. Most only go to 22-24 and stripping very fine wire is difficult without breaking those extra fine strands. The quality of this tool is nice and the machining seems accurate. My only wish is that they used the extra room on the jaw to add 18, 16, 14 & 12 AWG as then I would only need one wire stripper but this only goes to 20 AWG. If you do a lot of fine work, this is worth having.
