Nice, basic set. Good for beginners like me atleast!
I'm a first time bonsai owner. Been using these for awhile now. They are pretty sharp. Its comfortable to use. The rivet on my sheers were just a little loose but it didn't really effect the performance. Looks like you can resharpen them yourself if your into that sorta thing. Cheap and gets the job done!

No brand indication or company info, but adequate
Are these even Stanwood brand? Not that it's a sought-after brand name, but there's no indication on the packaging or tools that these are Stanwood brand. They're not bad for the price, but I doubt the "warranty" advertised is worth the electricity it took to type the word "warranty."The concave cutters are getting the job done, for the most part, so there's that. I've been using them more for woody/lignified parts on herbs (bay laurel) and nightshades (chili peppers) than on actual bonsai, but they seem to offer a decent enough concave cut. The shears have a fair bit of play, and when in the closed position, the blades have a gap that's over 1/8 inch at its widest point. I've never used high-end bonsai tools, but I suspect that this is a manufacturing flaw, not an intentional characteristic. The concave cutters aren't the best, but are probably decent enough to justify the cost of the whole set. The shears aren't something I use often, but this review is based on looking at them as a throw-in item instead of half the set, and can be used for cuts that are OK if rough.

Missing snips
There are two tools in the kit...is it really hard to make sure that two tools go in the box? Pruning snips came in missing with a box that looked like it had been opened before. Disappointing. Feels like using high technology to go to a garage sale.

Good value, but rust easily
Give the low price relative to other concave pruners, I expected these to be adequate at best. As it turned out, the pruners and snips are remarkably sturdy and sharp. One test drive with the pruners on a Lowe's mugo pine illustrated the need for a concave cut when removing certain kinds of growth; the cuts were inconspicuous and quick to scab over. After the first use, I washed both pieces and waited five minutes before drying, and rust spots had already begun to form on the blade of the scissors (they wiped away easily). Wash after use, but promptly dry and oil. You'll be glad you didn't but a $75 pair of pruners.

Great for the price
Great for the price. The concave cutter is very nice and sharp. Works very well. The shears are a bit large for my uses, but they are sharp. I will probably only be using them on bigger cuts; small trimming would be too difficult with them due to their size.

Very Nice
Basic Bonsai Tool Set is what I needed to keep my Bonsai up to snuff. My daughtr gave me the little tree and while I don't really want to become an expert, I enjoy keeping it looking well trimmed and up to snuff. Tool set is of excellent quality.

Pretty good
I guess these are ok. They look very mass-produced, and made out of slag steel. Nothing impressive. So far they seem reasonably sharp. I was mainly interested in getting the concave cutters, and those cut fine. The action of the tool is stiff, so you have to pry them open, they won't open by themselves. But they have a nice shaped head which can get in between branches and cut center branches very low to the collar. The scissors are decent, but there is some play in the two halves. You can force them to cut along a clean edge but they seem a bit cheap to me.Overall, these tools are decent, don't expect anything more.

Great affordable set for newbies
A good starter set. Just be sure to use WD40 on them when you get them and be very careful to always keep them dried and oiled--they rust easily but found this not to be a problem if kept oiled--once again not regular oil but WD40.

These are nice tools. The reason I gave 4 stars is ...
This was a gift for my son. These are nice tools. The reason I gave 4 stars is because the scissors kept pinching my son's skin. Not ergonomic for his hands anyway.
