Cable Matters 4K Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable in Black 15 Feet - Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 Port Compatible

I have a 4k HDTV and I wanted to connect my laptop which only has a mini DisplayPort. Previously I had a mini DP to HDMI adapter with a standard HDMI cable, most likely my HDMI cable was not 4k ready as the TV would not display so instead of looking into an updated HDMI cable I decided to look for a Mini DP to HDMI cable (not adapter) that was 4k capable and found this Cable Matters one which fixed my black screen issue. I can now connect my laptop to my TV and get an image with this cable.

This is a Mini DisplayPort cable, NOT Thunderbolt. The listing mentions Thunderbolt in several places leading people to believe that this is a Thunderbolt cable. It is not. Thunderbolt is Bi-Directional and this cable won't do that. When the listing says it is Thunderbolt compatible, I took them at their word that it supports all functionality of Thunderbolt. After rereading the listing, it does mention the cable is not bi-directional, but it is buried in the listing and who reads the whole listing when the title and bullet points seem like what you need? Misleading. If what you need is just a DisplayPort cable, this one seems fine for that. And it comes in 15 ft. length which is hard to find so there is that.

Ordered 2 cables for brand new monitors. Out of the box, or rather bag in this instance the first cable would not make the monitor on. The second one seemed to work just fine... Seemed being the important word here. Within a few days the issue was readily apparent. Upon awakening from sleep the monitor that was not using this cable worked fine, while the remaining monitor that was using this cable would not wake up. The machine had to be restarted to get the monitor to operate again with this cable. We replaced it with another cable and have had no issues since. We can not recommend these to others.

It was exactly the cable I needed, but it was not very sturdy. I use it to connect my laptop to a projector daily in a school classroom. the cable worked well for about two weeks and then began to fail. I had to "wiggle" the cable in order for it to function. After three weeks, it went into the trash can. I purchased another one from Ebay that works well.

Perfect to view and hear programming via Mini DataPort on the the big screen via HDMI. I purchased the 10-foot so as to have a bit more room to work. Sturdy cable!
