Great Product
I bought this opener for my sliding wooden fence gate in my back yard. If I had to estimate I would say the gate is 20 feet wide and weighs about 400-500 pounds. First off I want to say this is not just a simple, finish in an afternoon project. I knew that going in so it helped temper my expectations.I ordered the product and thanks to prime received it 2 days later. The opener was $150 cheaper on amazon than at home depot so with the free shipping it was a no brainer. I read the included materials beforehand so I also ordered an extra gate opener for my wife's car. When the opener arrived my friend and I got out the instructions and figured out a few things before we started digging a hole for the concrete pad.1. We took out the brackets that attach the chain to the fence and found out the included hardware would not work for the fence. We went to home depot and were able to repurpose some fence hardware, all thread rod, and bolts that worked great for mounting the brackets on the fence.2. We temporarily mounted the brackets to the fence using screws at the height suggested in the manual, we did not use the full mounting hardware in case issues were determined and we had to find an alternate solution.*Note: At this point we discovered that the mounting brackets would actually hit the gas meter in the back yard. Fortunately the meter was loosely held in the ground and we were able to tilt it out of the way to provide ample clearance from the bracket when the gate is opening/closing.3. We pulled a string between the mounts and determined where to dig/pour the concrete pad.4. We assembled the gate opener and poured the pad with the legs of the opener in the pad so it sat at the proper height.*Note: Fortunately the opener worked great, it may have been a good idea to test it before setting it in concrete but we got lucky this time.5. Once the pad was set we ran electric to the opener through underground conduit. Had to install a new fuse in my box and a GFCI outlet near my electric box to plug in the opener.6. Installed the chain and fiddled with the stops until we had it opening and closing properly.* Note: Regardless of the settings I used on the opener motherboard, if it ran into the stopping point (fence) before hitting the set screw, it blew a fuse. This still happens and I have not determined why. I have the screws set so that the gate closes to within about a 1/2 inch of the other side of the fence so that is good enough for me. The set screws have a tendency to stick in cold whether and relocate themselves so several times this winter the gate has hit the fence and blown a fuse. I just went to Autozone and bought 20 Amp fuses that are the same size as the fuses in the box, I store several in the box in case this happens so I can change them fairly quickly (10 minutes). I think if I find some good all-weather grease it would help with this problem but haven't had time to research that. The installation took approximately 3 full days. However, I would rate myself as a beginner handyman so I was learning a lot of this on the fly. My friend fortunately was very experienced with electric and with machinery in general (he is an airplane mechanic by trade). Overall I am extremely pleased with the gate opener and I would recommend it to anyone who either is a bit handy or has a friend that can help!

Fantastic Gate Operator
I have a cantilever gate 4' tall X 30' with a 20' opening. This is built with 2X2 square tubing for the frame with 1" square tube for the inside runners 4" apart. This is the second Mighty Mule gate opener for this gate. I had no issues with the first operator but after 10+ years of operation the motor brushes wore out. I decided to purchase a complete controller for an easy swap out. I am replacing the brushes in the old motor then I have another easy swap unit for down the road. When the gate is almost fully extended yes the motor does load and slow a bit but my gate has a 66# push load because of the size. I also upgraded to a group 24 car battery instead of the small battery that fits in the unit. I cover the battery with an imitation rock cover used to hide irrigation boxes. The battery is charged with a 15amp solar panel wired through the board and works great. The instructions are great, in fact they also explained how to build my cantilever gate. My gate has been through hell as it is operated 10-15 times per day and Mighty Mule has proven to me they make a great product. This is not a simple DIY project for the light bulb changer in the house. You need to have a good head on your shoulders to install this if you want this to last for years to come or get a smart friend to help.

Not the same gate opener that I bought 10 years ago
Bought this opener since it was basically the same model and fit as the previous opener I had purchased from GTO. That old opener opened our 20ft chain link gate on an average of 12X a day. Good run for a residential opener. Well this opener appears to be of less quality standards of its older self. The plastic circuit board case is thinner and came equipped with two out of four stripped holes, which was OK since it only came with 2 screws instead of four, with one wrapped with Teflon tape on the threads. These were the last things to be noticed since they were the last thing to be tightened before installing the shroud. The installation manual is also a little shy on the instructions. Fortunately I still had the old manual to fill in a couple of blanks. A word of warning for buyers in hot climates like myself in PHX, AZ. Do NOT put the battery in the designated slot for it but mount it outside the control box housing. It seems with 110 degree plus temperatures, the battery will swell 150% and distort the case as it did with my old one eight years ago. We will see if this new model will last as long as the first one.

Has spent more time broken than working
The gate opener has spent most of its time broken. First the control board went out, so after dealing with customer service they sent a new one, installed it and the gate still didn’t work. Turns out the limit switch board was bad too. So finally got them to send that, replaced it, still not working, so after a 2 month wait they sent another part. Installed it and still not working. The gate opener is 1 year old and has functioned properly for 3 months.Customer service has been a mixed bag of decent and complete nightmare. If at all possible avoid this gate opener. Unfortunately unless I redo my entire gate system I’m stuck with using a sliding gate opener.

Gate opener
So far I give them a high review. The installer said they were the best. Price was durable. I ordered 2 and so far just love them. Far better than the old ones
