Buy a New Battery
Purchased the Kidde wired in smoke detector Model I4618AC to replace ones installed in new construction 13 years ago. Replacement installation with this model and and an adapter was simple and required no new drilling or shutting the power off.Only issue is that when installed with the battery that came with the unit, I had the blinking light and warning beep every 28 seconds. I thought the unit was defective, but when I replaced battery with a new Duracell it worked great and finally have no more beeping in my bedroom.

safety first
all three of my 20 year old smoke alarms didn't sound when I tested them. I was going to order 3 but I hit the one click button by mistake. 2 more are on the way. Installed this one immediately and it's working.

Constant false alarms, and low battery alerts on fresh batteries
I don't know how these are reviewed so high here, on Kidde's own website they have 1.6 stars with many people complaining of the same thing I am. I Bought these to replace some aging smoke detectors, and since then they've been giving me constant problems to the point while still relatively brand new they all went in the trash. They will randomly go off for no reason, and finding the one that alerted is impossible since the light codes don't work as the should. In the meantime you are running from alarm to alarm to silence them and figure out which one alarmed, and it's impossible, and they won't shut up. The silence button does nothing. Turning off the breaker doesn't work since the batteries keep them all going, so you have to go to every single one to pull the batteries out. On top of that two of them keep giving the 30 second alerts to signal a low battery, even with fresh batteries installed that I verified with a voltmeter. Somehow all of these problems always pop up in the middle of the night. These were an expensive mistake both in terms of money and headache.
