Page Turner! Franchise Fans will be Hooked!
This might be the pinnacle of post-sale [Disney] Star Wars comics. It’s excellent. The art and look of the book is top notch. But best of all: the storytelling! The plot, pacing, Easter eggs, twists, challenges, character/world expansion...great ideas and execution.A satisfying and fun read!Obviously, I enjoyed it. I think Original & Prequel enthusiasts will get the most out of it; they will really like this. It’s not so deep in the lore that casual fans will not like it. I recommend it to any Star Wars fan. It reads like top-of-the-industry work.

Good addition to the new canon
This arch greatly enriches the subtext of the existing Skywalker story. While paralleling the events in the main Star Wars comic series, Darth Vader explores his roll in the Empire and sets about a journey to ensure his position within it. Excellent read, great illustrations, clever reintroduction to classic characters, and memorable new ones are all reasons why I'm on my 3rd reading within almost a week.

LOOOOOOOOONG lead time
My husband is enjoying reading this. I'm just not sure why the lead time is so long. When I ordered it in early January the estimated delivery time was February-March, so I knew ahead of time....but just wondering WHY?

Surprised how good this was
Surprised how good this was. Thought it was better than anything Star Wars I've seen or read since before the prequels. Also liked the supporting characters enough that I subscribed to the Dr Aphra on-going series after reading this. Will be ordering another set of volume 1 and 2 for a friend's birthday

Gorgeous artwork
I think the best aspect of this book is the artwork. As a Star Wars fan, every single panel is amazing to look at. I’m not quite as in love with the stories and writing, but it’s nothing to criticize either!

an amazing Star Wars story - with fantastic artwork
This is a truly fantastic comic book, offering a great story with high production values. It's the first volume in a multi-part saga that explores the adventures of Darth Vader - as take place between episodes IV and V (i.e. between 'A New Hope' and 'The Empire Strikes Back'). The four volumes present a grand story-arc, which was originally offered as 25 comic book issues. This first volume collects issues 1 to 12, which introduce the main elements of the plot. The Death Star has been destroyed by the rebel alliance, thereby foiling a plan 20-odd years in the making - which would have allowed the Emperor to rule the galaxy with an iron fist ... Darth Vader has survived the Battle of Yavin, and is held partially responsible for this Imperial failure. As the Emperor sets about to renew his efforts to destroy the rebellion, Lord Vader must decide how best to proceed - which involves, amongst other things, setting out to discover the identity of the rebel pilot who succeeded in blowing up the Death Star. The art work is first-rate. And this hardback deluxe edition presents additional illustrations that aren't included in the trade paperback. This graphic novel is a joy to flick through, as every drawing is superbly rendered. The writing is also excellent, and the story development is highly engaging. The way in which the personality of Vader is portrayed - as a dark, tragic and menacing soul - is brilliant. This new saga is part of Disney's official canon, and the presented adventure certainly contributes to the Star Wars universe. If you're a fan of the central character then I highly recommend this item.Unfortunately the rest of the issues aren't (yet) available in hardback. The three paperback volumes are: Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 2: Shadows and Secrets (Star Wars (Marvel)) , Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 3 - The Shu-Torun War (Star Wars (Marvel)) and Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 4 - End of Games (Star Wars (Marvel)) . Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 2: Shadows and Secrets (Star Wars (Marvel))Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 3 - The Shu-Torun War (Star Wars (Marvel))Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 4 - End of Games (Star Wars (Marvel))

See the aftermath of the Death Star's destruction and how Vader navigate's in it's debri.
After the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope scheming Palpatine considers the usefullness of his apprentice, a tool, after his failures that led to the destruction of the Death Star. Vader having none of it, starts his own plotting and scheming finding out the lies that the emperor has been feeding him for 20 years. 20 years in which Vader has not forgotten the past, finding out the truth, that leads to a pivotal key-moment in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strike's Back. This also leads to the introduction of a new cast of characters, though not memorable do their part in deepening the character of Darth Vader. Vader being the silent -seeming always in though- not-second guessing killer, get's more humane moments in which these characters help to speak for him. Good correct well written logical dialogue helps to empathize with the new cast, and their faiths. The past is catching up on vader, in way you might say he might be regaining his humanity. But it isn't because all he want's is what all Sith want, power. The art does it's job, keeps the space-opera feeling intact but nothing special. Some great shots though, with as an added bonus some scetches and the variant covers of the individual comics.

I sense something, a presence I have not felt since..
Read some of these single Darth Vader paperback issues in the past and was very impressed. The material certainly stands out from much of the other Star Wars comic material in terms of storyline and art. I find its very close to the movie-canon and 'feel'. So I'm much inclined to buy the other hard cover collections in the series.Really like how Darth's scheming and challenges between EPII & EPIV are portrayed. And Dr Aphra with her deadly droid companions are a brilliant addition to the universe (this warrants a movie Disney!) .

Nice comic book!
The comic book in general is very intriguing, the story about Vader is very interesting. The only thing I didn't like was those two evil droids that looks almost the same as C3-PO and RS-D2. I didn't understand the point of them, didn't like it. Also there was an evil wookie like chewbacca, those 3 characters for me they kind of ruin the joy of reading the book; but again, in general I liked it!
