Great buy. 5 stars!
I am a teeth grinder, I have TMJ and I snore. Sounds like a bad dating site intro, but it's true. I used to have a night guard that I purchased from my dentist, but it no longer works and was well over $600.00. I decided to check for a cheaper option and came across the Dental Protector. I was skeptical at first, but once I received the product and molded it to my teeth I can't imagine not having it. It comes with two Mouth guards in a package. There is a slight smell and taste, but once you put it in boiling water to soften it so you can mold it to your teeth the smell/taste considerably lessens. The first one we tried to mold, let's just say don't put it in the boiling water for long. We put it in for 30 seconds like the instructions say to, but it turned into a clump of steaming plastic. The last one we put it in for about 15 seconds and it worked perfectly. Once it's softened you make sure the hot water is out of the guard channel and then immediately put it into your mouth and suck like you would on a straw in a thick shake. It took two tries to have it firmly fit. You want to do that process as many times as needed until the guard stays gently locked onto your teeth without it falling down. I've had the item for a couple weeks and I've noticed a significant difference in the mornings. My jaw doesn't hurt and hubby says it has helped with the snoring. Overall, this is a great purchase. It's made well and thick enough to last for years to come. I would buy this again without hesitation.

Save Hundreds Of Dollars
I went through a period of my life where I ate unhealthy and didn't floss. A couple of years later, I am paying for it...paying really hard for it. Almost every tooth had a cavity...some had two. I am not even done getting them all filled at the time of writing this. Besides the cavities, I found out that I am one of the few people who can physically have my wisdom teeth forever without problems...just to find out that because of my poor flossing and hygene habits, they had to come out. My bite has changed drastically ove the last few months and I don't know if it is for the better or worse.I found out that I am brushing too hard, with too hard of a brush. I have erased most of my enamel. On top of this, I show signs of grinding at night. I am not sure if I actually "grind" my teeth, but I know for sure I clench them together at some point because most mornings my jaw feels like I spend an hour chewing really firm food.My dentist told me I needed a night guard to wear. He informed me that most people don't listen to him because the ones you get through the dentist that are molded to your teeth are specially made and cost $650. He told me that third party guards are better than nothing. I hopped on Amazon right away and found this item. There isn't much to say about this item. I screwed up initially and didn't get the water hot enough before soaking it in it. It fit in my mouth, but felt like it was always moving around and really bulky. It would fall out. I tried again and heated it up a little more to the point where the walls of the device started bending in towards each other and sticking. It was probably too hot to put in my mouth but it worked out pretty well. Once I had it on my top teeth, I used my fingers to massage it in place and also closed my mouth and gently sucked the air out of it. I spit it out into cold water and let it sit for a few minutes as it hardened. It now fits in my mouth nice and snug.It took a while to get used to sleeping with it in. I haven't been using it long enough to be able to decide how well it works so I will be updating this in a few weeks.

Mine completely melted
I grind my teeth. I don't think I do it terribly, but I know I do it periodically when I'm sleeping. So, I figured, for the price, I'd give this a whirl.I just got it out of the box and read the instructions. I went into the kitchen, heated water and dropped the first mouth guard into the water. It melted. I mean, it MELTED. It curled up in a little blob and was totally unusable. It looks like I have one more chance, as two come in the box. I don't know if I'll even try after the first terrible failure. Maybe I'll just look for another product instead. Very disappointed. I cannot recommend.

Disappointed
I'd hoped that I could get something usable from a cheaper over-the-counter product, but unfortunately I'm going to have to go to the dentist. This product does form to your teeth--note that their instructions don't really work (the water doesn't get hot enough to shape the plastic), so you have to overheat the water and soak just until the plastic starts to deform. Then it should form to your teeth (it still didn't burn my gums, even being so much hotter). It took me a couple of tries before it worked.Once I got the plastic formed, I tried it to sleep--and woke up in the morning with a sore mouth. The trouble is that when I clench my teeth, the plastic pulls on other teeth, leading to soreness. Maybe if you don't clench as much, you'll be okay, but if you clench your jaw overnight, you'll likely experience the same problem. Overall, not recommended.

Great Fit
This item works great. I got this to combat my teeth grinding... More the better if it stops snoring! You will probably need to trim it at a few places for a custom fit. The fit is snug and I did not have a problem with the guard falling out after going to sleep. I have seen some of the critical reviews concerning a loose fit. Recommend placing the guard back in the boiling water and when "re-fitting" the guard, and placing your tongue at the roof of you mouth and suck. It sounds inane, but it pulls the guard tight into the teeth. I would (and likely will) buy this again.

okay for light grinders and large mouths, but NOT heavy grinders or small mouths
While this product molds easily and has a good fit 'feel', I caution strongly against using it if you are a sever grinder like I am. The 'soft and chewy' nature of this rubbery/spongy material activates a natural chewing reflex that could make things VERY uncomfortable in terms of tooth and jaw pain. I am 6', 210 lbs and found that this product did mold well to my large mouth. However, my wife has a small mouth (almost child size) and found that the material was so bulky the she ended up drooling all over the place since her mouth could barely close.
