I have two dogs, one senior and one younger. The senior is always a bit dehydrated because he won’t drink much, and he just got put on heart meds that act as a diuretic. So I wanted to do something to help encourage him to drink more. My vet suggested a filtered dish, as apparently animals prefer moving water to stagnant water.So there are actually two options for this water dish... the butterfly one, and the one with a taller waterfall sort of effect. I’ve bought both!! I got the waterfall one first, thinking my two chihuahuas would like that. It works perfectly fine, and would probably be great for a larger or even medium sized dog. But my two are tiny, and the larger waterfall I think put them off. They would barely go near it, and the few times they did try to get a drink, I could see them flinching back and squinting because they were getting splashed in the face. It’s a little louder, too. Not bad for me, but I think for their little ears right down next to it, it may have been too much. I’m going to give it to my parents, because they have a pet bird and I’ve seen others say that it’s great for bird showers.So I went ahead and bought the butterfly one to try. And they love it! It’s much quieter, and the little streams that come out of the butterfly are smaller and have a shorter distance to fall, so they aren’t so splashy. It was easy to put together, and it came with the info on replacement filters, so I can easily find them when I need to change it. But I am just amazed at how much more my dogs are drinking! It holds quite a bit of water, but after a few days I noticed there was barely any water coming out of the butterfly. I lifted the top, thinking there was a clog or something. Nope! It was nearly empty! I couldn’t believe it. I’ll just have to make sure to refill it every couple of days. I’m so happy they are drinking more. Everyone needs to be well hydrated!

We love it! I use this for my guinea pigs. It’s 3 inches high so they don’t get food debris in it. The big ones dip their head directly in it while the little ones rest their paws on the side. They can all drink from it at once and it’s amazingly quiet. It’s very easy to clean and refill. The cord comes in two pieces so I don’t have to drag the long cord with me when I clean it. The filter set up may turn this into a costly investment. but it may be worth it for my pets to have clean fresh water everyday. I just hope they don’t discontinue the model anytime soon as the filter is very specific to this brand.

Product came on time and arrived in perfect condition. This is the first time I have purchased a device like this for a pet. The plastic was sturdy and good quality. The assembly instructions were easy to follow but remember to remove plastic film from charcoal filter and rinse filter under running water to remove loose carbon.The reservoir holds a lot of water so it does not need to be refilled constantly but I like to clean and change water every few days.You can attach the palm tree to the bowl or leave it off and the water just bubbles out. I chose to connect the tree since the cats really love to watch the water flow over the top of tree and trickle back into the bowl. This does create a pleasant water flow sound which doesn't seem to bother the cats. Actually, the cats prefer to drink the water as it trickles off the tree instead of licking the bowl.This DOES have parts that need to be cleaned or replaced eventually which will add to the cost including replacing the filter and charcoal. It also has a small 12V pump which should never be run dry. The fountain does give you some warning when tank is getting empty by making some noise to warn you. Will need to see how durable the pump is. In addition, the bowl needs to be free of debris like cat food or litter since a clog can block the pump or block the overflow slot in back of bowl which could cause overflow.

My wife swears by Pet Safe products. I decided to get this fountain for my older cat. Excited to get it, but that didn’t last long. Carefully read the instructions, cleaned the parts and assembled per the instructions. Filled with water, plugged it in, heard the pump start....but nothing. Took the butterfly off, still nothing. Took the lid off-the pump couldn’t even put the water over the top of the pump. Took it all apart and put it back together. Same results.Okay, so maybe I just got that one rare faulty fountain.Let me return it and get another exact fountain.Once again, followed the instructions only to end up with the same results. The pump can’t even pump the water out of the pump. I will return this one and never buy from them again.I am attaching two pictures. This is both non working fountains.

So easy to clean!! That was number 1 priority and it truly is easy. I researched many, many different cat (small pet) water fountains before choosing the PetSafe Original Fountain. I was willing to pay any amount. However I am super pleased with this product and it’s low cost is truly a bonus! Our two older kitties LOVE it. They took right to it! I clean it thoroughly every 3 days and add water in between. I wash with dish soap (Dawn) and warm water. It seriously only takes a couple of minutes to take apart, wash, put back together and fill. The only con is that the filter needs to be rinsed a long time before the odor is gone from the filter itself. I’ll probably stop using the charcoal filter soon and see if there’s any difference. I doubt it. People have commented on line concerning fountains’ noise level. We have ours in our living area and it’s a barely noticeable trickle. Doesn’t bother us at all.

Perfect Dish for a great price. Had a different dish previous to this one that croaked in less than 6 weeks. This dish is hardy, has low noise, and has a great reservoir for water. I also like that should the pump quit, I can replace that unit separately. I'd recommend this dish to anyone with smaller animals.
