Baby Mama [DVD]

"There is a thing about being too healthy, that's what killed Bruce Lee" - Angie
In "Baby Mama", you will see one of the best comedy-writing, and acting teams in Tina Fey (Kate) and Amy Poehler (Angie) portraying opposites attract... Eventually. Their first movie and possibly their best for comedic value; every other statement between these two or the ensemble cast filled with cameo roles is hysterical. Kate is a career woman who held off having a baby until later in life for furthering her career while a free-spirited and partying Angie just goes with the flow in life and is able to help out by carrying a baby for Kate as a surrogate. When a pregnant Angie winds up under the same roof as Kate, the laughs, mishaps, and fun begin. With Kate being so straight-laced and monetarily successful, Angie is completely fun loving and rebels against her opposite, stick in the mud, personality type. These two experience together how it is in the world for the other woman. Even though there may not be a lot of understanding of it at first, there is a lot of growing compassion between the pair. But could these two ever develop a friendship? It is a truly funny twisting turning unexpected roller coaster ride of estrogen on steroids. Make no mistake though, with this full cast of characters, the guys have you laughing just as much too. The relationships aren't only concerning women alone. Check out Steve Martin's role in this as I thought he was another side-splitter. I laughed through this whole film so I had to immediately watch it again to hear what I missed. It is still just as funny anytime I watch it...

Racist comments early on in the movie
I didn't have to watch for very long before I come upon a scene with the woman talking to her family about trying to use the sperm bank to get pregnant and that she's possibly infertile...ok...whatever...but then her mother says a very derogatory comment: "Don't get a black baby." Come on! Racism almost first thing! This is inappropriate. I'm sure if it has that it'll have even worse later on.

Not Many Jokes.
This movie is extremely light on the actual laugh-out-loud comedy. It's more of a regular feel-good movie with a few jokes thrown in. Yes, it's disappointing because you expect it to be packed with funny jokes since it's Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. However, if you can just pretend that it's a regular movie, with regular actors, it's okay. And it's really just okay. There is no way you can call this a "hysterical comedy." It makes you smile a couple times and that's about it. The writing could be a lot better, and obviously it could've been funnier. It seemed to have an identity crisis of what kind of movie it was trying to be- Comedy? Romance? Drama? A little of everything? Overall, Baby Mama is pretty forgettable, but not terrible.

So great!!
I was somewhat offended when I read the bad reviews here! i loved this movie! I'm usually not a Tina Fey fan, but I loved her character in this movie, and especially the dynamic with Amy Poehler. Their relationship is so funny in this movie. There aren't a ton of jokes, but they just really bring out the best in each other. The supporting characters are also just that......characters!! Really funny, weird characters that would make you look twice in real life. I mean....Steve Martin as the hippie boss who tries to "give people his mojo?" And Tina Fey's reactions? Love it!!

Happy, feel good movie
Just what I wanted to see, something happy and uplifting. I love Tina Fey from 30 Rock and Amy Poehler from Parks and Rec. It almost gets five stars, but five is reserved for shows I enjoy watching over and over again. I don't think I'd watch it again.

Only relevant if you're high
After paying 100k to a quack for a surrogate, she finds her "true love" and gets pregnant. What kind of message is that? Even if you're a successful business woman, you can still fill the hole, but only if you find your prince charming? A complete mockery of the struggles of infertility.

Barely Decent
The plot and story are pretty terrible. The movie tries to make up for it with jokes, but there just isn't enough jokes or plot to make a compelling rom com. The cast is capable of more. Greg Kinnear sucks all the funny out of the scenes he's in.
