Engrossing story but wait for a corrected version.
Engrossing story but wait for another version. My book is filled with spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. errors that make it difficult for the story to flow. If I weren't reading this for a friend I'd have given up long ago. I don't want to sound petty, but I can't understand charging "real" book prices for a book that doesn't appear to have been proofread. Again, great story and I feel for this family, but the reader needs to be very patient trying to read. If you can just skim through quickly for the general ideas then this book would work fine for you.

It was a struggle, and then I gave up!
I ignored some of the negative comments posted about this book and now wished that I hadn’t. I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened but honestly I gave up. The book I purchased was littered with spelling, punctuation, and other grammatical errors that kept interrupting the flow and made it very difficult to follow the story. The book went on and on and on and on; there was way more detail than what was needed to keep the book moving and successfully tell the story. I was excited about reading this book, but after suffering through 200+ pages before calling it quits, I would not recommend this book.

A Terrifying Experience
One morning, just like every other morning, Paul Roland loaded up his truck to go to work. Except unlike every other morning, two young people were waiting outside to abduct him. When his friend and co-worker Mike reported that he hadn't shown up for work, his wife frantically tries to convince police that he's a missing person. When his truck is found abandoned, they begin to believe her, and the search is on. The kidnapping is only a quarter of the story, as the book follows the aftermath including the investigation, arrests, questioning, court proceedings, and life after it all for Paul and Mary and their family.Told from multiple points of view, the story switches from Mary (Paul's wife) to Paul to various law enforcement and court officials. The agony of losing control and worrying endlessly for safety of yourself and your loved ones is represented by Mary's voice. Listening to Paul embues the terror and confusion that the victim experiences during the ordeal, and the fear and confusion that follows. The reader lives the tedium of interviewing uncooperative suspects and sifting through the lies and misinformation to find the truth. Finally, through the court proceedings it becomes clear that there are no winners in this process - justice doesn't take away the impact of traumatic events on the victims and their family, and it rarely feels like a win when the damage can't be undone. This book wrung me out. The authors wrap their words in emotion, and carrying the story through the entire process until present day packs an emotional punch. The shifting view points really captures the back and forth of the exchanges. Even though some outcomes, such as familial relationships, take different turns, it doesn't influence how they are portrayed earlier in the story, adding to its authenticity. Less exclamation points in the text would have allowed the reader to feel less led and more able to discover shock and awe for themselves, but otherwise it is well told.

Just proves this could happen to anyone
The story depicts a true life changing event when Mary's 73 year old husband is kidnapped from their garage. Most of the story line was interesting to read, despite the many grammar/typo errors. Some parts, such as the interviewing process was rather dry. Many parts overlapped and repeated itself, causing it hard to read. With that being said, the book was an eye opener on how the kidnapping was orchestrated by someone who owed the drug cartel money, but the victims and their families had nothing to do with that lifestyle. Just proves this could happen to anyone. There is a lot of focus on Mary and her feelings, yet there is an attempt to show Paul's fears and anxieties too. This tragic event affected so many more people than just Mary and Paul, and once fear is instilled into one's life, it rarely fully dissipates.

Walking Between The Raindrops
This book looked interesting and was, but all the details and on and on. It's one of the longest books I've ever read, and not in a good way. Mary seems more concerned for herself than Paul. We hear repeatedly what she went through, then she would include Paul. A very, very long story that should have been condensed immensely.Slow, boring, painful read.

Excellent book based on this true story. Very much an eye opener of what is actually happening around us and we are not even aware
I chose this rating because it was so well written and conveyed the truth of what can and does happen around us, and we are not even aware of it. I appreciate the ability of the writer to open my eyes to make me feel as if I were a part of the story. It also has made me more aware of what can happen to any of us, just because we are in the wrong time at the wrong place. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those that were involved in the kidnapping.

A good read!
True life story written by the victims. Shows that even bad can happen to people/families that live a regular good life. Im was glad to read that they made it thru. I do think the emotional abuse that one goes thru does take much longer to get thru then physical abuse and I think this book also proves that.
