Dakota shines, Denzel Rules!
Revenge - properly - must be righteous. And it is never more so than in this perfectly cast and brilliant film from Director Tony Scott and writer Brian Helgeland. No one could be more worthy of rescue than 9 yr. old Dakota Fanning, and no one more capable of saving her than Denzel Washington. Denzel has proven himself a master of handling weaponry in a half dozen films at least, and nowhere does he do it with more ruthless efficiency than here. Chris Walken and Mickey Rourke are absolutely perfect in support. If action is your bag, take this one to the bank.

Amazon sabotaged the ending - not the original cut
One of the greatest movies of all time (Tony Scott where are you) only to get a sabotaged, edited ending - very lame and dishonest on Amazon part. It's is bad enough that you gave us that lame ending - also edited, cut and sabotaged on Matchstick Men (from Tony's brother: Ridley Scott) now we've got this movie also cut and edited - hey Amazon we only want uncut, UNCUT - who are you to edit a Tony Scott movie anyway, not that you ever came anywhere close to what he ever did, and in memory of him, some respect for his work, please.

Best movie I have seen in years.
One of my top five movies, if I had to make a list. The writing, cinematography and just overall style is amazing. The performances put on by both Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning are incredible, their time spent together on screen feels real. From the beginning scenes you can feel the tension, to the climax where you can really feel the love Creasy (Denzels character) has for Pita (Dakota). I understand that this is a remake of a film from the 70's/80's (unsure) however I have not seen the original so I have no comparison as far as accuracy of remake. Several key scenes throughout the film will keep you on edge, as Denzel tears his way through Mexico figuratively as a Man On Fire. If you are looking for an amazing revenge flick, then look no further. Dim the lights, pop the popcorn, grab the drinks and settle in for a non stop ride.

Man on Fire
I thought this was another great Denzel Washington movie. He is like Russell Crowe, play any part. He was excellent in this one, dynamic I would say because the character he plays is. A down on life alcoholic because of th things he's committed in his life. A trip to Mexico to visit an old friend. Maybe his last. He wants God to forgive him for the things he has done although being a devout reader of the bible does not believe God will. A turn in life because of a young girl he's hired to body guard changes all. It's a little predictable but more dynamic than you predict. If not quite as predictable I would give it 5 stars.

Denzel at his best: great pace with an excellent cast
This is a terrific movie. The title is appropriate, but the director never explained its meaning. The Man of Fire is a fresco in a museum in Guadalajara by Orozco that shows a man either consumed by flames or rising from them— depending on how you look at the painting. It symbolizes the future of Mexico. The Denzel Washington character was at a similar crossroad. He was on a downward spiral until he was rescued by a young girl. The girl was kidnapped and presumed dead, which caused Denzel to seek revenge on anyone involved. This was an exciting, entertaining movie that I enjoyed very much.

This film that I bought at Amazon doesn't get the high ratings it should.
We love this film. It is a touching but gritty story about a man, played by Denzel Washington, who signs up to be the bodyguard of a little girl from a well-to-do family in Mexico City. The bodyguard has recurring memories of serious combat and drinks to quell the memories. He admits this to the family, and they hire him anyway. After a time, the bodyguard and little girl become fast friends after he trains her to win a school swimming competition while her parents are away. The little girl is kidnapped by Mexican abduction gangsters. It turns out the girl's father is part of the kidnap deal, because he needs the money. Some of the Mexican police who are corrupt aid in the abduction. An honest journalist and the police captain try to find the girl. The bodyguard determines that the fast and best way to get her back is to do it himself. He has all the training he needs in his past to do this. He pursues the gangsters, reveals that the father was part of the abduction and returns the girl to her mother--at mortal cost to himself. Fast paced. Some violence. Beautiful story!

More of a Mis-Fire
In a sense, this is actually a reasonable Brain-Dead Summer Action Movie. Lot's of action, no need to think. From that perspective, it does take a while to get started though, so that may not be the best way to think of if.The problem is, it has lots of flishy-flashy scenes where lots of images are flashed at you for no apparent reason. As the film goes on, these begin to have a connection to the film, but some of the early ones looked totally unrelated to me. Perhaps they would look more related to the film if I watched it again. Not that that is at all likely. In a way, this is a pity. There really is a good, gritty, action picture inside this thing; it just can't find its way out.

It has a different and heart warming context.
Really loved the actors. They were great. It was a quick, heart wrenching story about a love that is true, between a body guard and a little girl ...They were great friends. We should all have a good friend like the retired service man. He did a good job showing his love and loyalty to the little girl. ( don't want to spoil it for you). Good MOVIE....... A young girl that had trouble. And the hero, found her......... and it was a happy/bitter ending. But different. I really enjoyed watching. You will too....

A bullet always tells the truth
Most modern movies suffer from crazy editing, all over the shop camera work and characters doing dumb things. Which, y'know this one does in spades... however, for all its annoying twerks its still one of the finest action flicks to come out in many a year.Hard-drinking ex-CIA operative John Creasy (Denzel Washington on stellar form) has seemingly given up on life. Tired of all that unsavoury killing business, he's down on his luck and generally in a bit of a huff. To ensure we don't blink and miss, Creasy sports a beard and some unkempt hair - which as we all know is Hollywood shorthand for 'badass in career meltdown'. Thankfully, hope is around the corner when he's hired to bodyguard 9 year old Pita (Dakota Fanning), the daughter of wealthy businessman Samuel Ramos (Marc Anthony) down Mexico way. Creasy reluctantly accepts the gig and is at first hesitant to connect to the little girl, but slowly he begins to reclaim his soul (cue a trip to the bathroom for a clean up and five minutes with his Bik) through his interactions with her and the family... however when Pita is kidnapped, Creasy taps back into his old persona in order to bring her back... no matter the cost. The late, great director Tony Scott ensures this one gives its audience major bang for their buck. Brian Helgeland's adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell novel (previously filmed in the '80s with Scott Glenn in the title role) is both streamlined and passionate, giving the game cast much to chew on: From Washington's broken down hardman to Fannings' innocent, this one offers the viewer an actual action flick with characters to care about... its a weird one, but you find yourself actually caring about these guys amidst the bullets and explosions.Twentieth Century Foxs' UK Blu-Ray release is a fine effort with solid audio and a blistering transfer, backed up by multiple extra features (the 'Vengeance is Mine' documentary is a doozy) that cover the film's production along with audio commentaries, music videos and theatrical trailers. All in all, this is certainly a five star disc for a five star film - highly recommended.

A bullet always tells the truth.
This is a fantastic film, showcasing Denzel Washington on fine form.Denzel plays John Creasy, a former CIA Black Ops Officer, turned Private Detective. Having seen the bad side of life, he has solace in alcohol and finds it difficult connecting with people. That is until an ex colleague (Christopher Walken), puts him in touch with a rich family in Mexico, Creasy is persuaded to become a bodyguard, where he meets Pita (Dakota Fanning) the familys daughter, who becomes his only link with humanity and helps bring out the real him.Unfortunately things take a turn for the worse, when Pita is kidnapped, what follows is a one man mission for Creasy to find the only thing he truly cares about and save her.The film is excellent on every level, the action sequences when the ex CIA black ops officer goes to rescue Pita are gritty, realistic and fantastically choreographed, while the scenes between Washington and Fanning are beautifully acted and directed building the bond realistically and slowly.Fanning and Washington are exceptional in this film, Washington puts on an acting masterclass, slowly moving from deadbeat drunken philosopher to on point superman who has found a purpose in life, he changes before our eyes and it’s a truly rewarding experience. Fanning, makes you care about her and you understand why Washington will do anything to save this wonderful little girl. The film is action packed, brilliantly acted, holds a few twists and draws you into it, and then spits you out again. It is amazing value and if you’ve never seen it, please buy it, I promise you will not be disappointed.

'TOP NOTCH DRAMA'
I'm sure like myself many of you will have seen this superb drama some while back, this release offers a 'collector's item' with the steel-book cover.the story tells of 'Creasy' who has a certain talent with a gun in his hand, currently living in Mexico a place where 'kidnap and ransom' is common place see's him recommended for a post as a bodyguard to a young girl. 'Lupita Ramos'After seemingly a short time in the job while he's waiting for his young charge to finish a piano lesson, things go pear-shaped, 'Creasy' manages to kill one or two of the attackers but is seriously wounded, the young girl has been kidnaped.'Creasy' needs plenty of recovery time, however as soon as he could stand, he has a need to avenge the kidnap of the child he was supposed to protect.'Hermadad. have chosen the wrong man to mess with, 'creasy' sets about taking the secretive and corrupt organisation apart, working his way through from bottom of the chain upwards.Great performance from 'Denzel Washington' in the role of 'Joyhn W Creasy'This really is a great movie, if you've never seen it before your in for a treat.Good picture and Sound quality throughout.

Denzel on fire (conatins SPOILERS)
First off, I don't know what the collective consensus of rotten tomatoes film critics were thinking when they awarded this film a 39% rotten rating. Far from being an average 2* slice of watchable entertainment, this film offers enough spills, thrills and kills to shame Satan himself into turning to God for forgiveness. It explores themes including morality, mortality, forgiveness, redemption, death, love, honour and most of all friendship. It's easily Tony Scotts (dir) best film and features an stalwart performance by the great Denzel Washington. He plays "Creasy" whom we assume was once a lethal and brilliant covert assassin for some sort of governmental agency, but has since slid into an guilt ridden, booze soaked shadow of his former self. From this intro, he is soon tasked with protecting young Dakota Fannings character from the ever rising threat of kidnapping in Mexico City. Before too long she is taken and by this point in the movie 'Creasy' has formed a unique bond with Fanning and through this relationship appears to have experienced some sort of redemption. This is why then that when Fanning is stolen 'Creasy' makes it his absolute mission to rescue the poor girl from the clutches of evil in order to fully relieve the cathartic toll his past killings have weighed on his concious. Cue lots of violence, dramatic twists and turns and a heart wrenching ending befitting a tragic tale more akin to Shakespeare than a Tony Scott movie. Easily in my list of top 25 movies of all time.

Unexpectedly good
This is a really moving film, action sequences notwithstanding. Keeps you guessing, and has a few perfect touches of humanity and humour to compliment the darkness that otherwise dominates the film. So that's my attempt at a review. Hope it helps. If you like a good story, awesome action but not too much, have a strong enough stomach for some rather painful scenes, love a bit of eye for eye justice, you'll like this film.Oh, and finally a little girl in an adult action movie that doesn't annoy the heck out of you!! (Looking at you, war of the worlds.)
