great little NVR for amcrest and other IP cams
Nice little NVR, I've installed them at work and home and they get the job done. The remote access is nice, and there is a current application you can download for mac or windows that lets you manage multiple units in addition to the web interface.

Does not handle even close to 16 8MP cameras
We bought a 16 channel system only expecting to use 8 or 9 cameras. It worked fine for the first 8, but the 9th camera caused problems. That camera would freeze, often it was seconds to minutes behind real time, and playback was funny. In playback you could see a person cross 50 feet of space in a second, since most of the frames were never recorded. So if you want support from this company that claims to be made in america get ready for a long hassle. First you have to fill out the form online listing all your equipment, model numbers, serial numbers, etc. In a couple of days you get an email. The first thing they will ask you for is your model number, since they can't actually access the online form you submitted! Next they will suggest you do a manual camera reset. If you choose to believe this is the route to go you are expected to climb a ladder and take the camera apart to get to the reset button! Yep break the factory waterproof seal and hit a button! When this does not solve the problem you get to find out the first layer of defense is an asian based call center that does not understand anything and is just following a script. A couple of hours later they will decide you need to talk to Houston, Texas. The next call went to an indian based call center and not texas. They will want you to download an app so they can get inside your computer and poke around on the NVR box and cameras! I said no way.The next call was finally Houston, TX. This guy we did finally allow on an old computer we don't use anymore to access our system. After almost 3 hours he reset all our cameras to 1080 resolution and completely wiped out all our settings back to factory. We spent weeks tweaking every camera setting to minimize false alarms... He said that is the best that can be done and promised to try and sort something out.He has never responded again to emails. So after 5 hours on the phone, tons of emails, and we now have a system that sort of works most of the time, with terrible resolution. We can barely even make out a license plate at this resolution. If I had wanted 1080 cameras I could have spent 1/2 the money so I am fighting for some sort of solution to this problem. They claim the issue is our internet speed. We have just over 100MPS speed here. When cornered they say it is not the upload speed, but the download speed that is the issue. No where in the description of the NVR does it say this nor in the manual. If this is not enough to make you run away try sending in a couple of cameras for repair. It will cost you 15 bucks in shipping and in our case they sent back the wrong camera! Oh and the camera they shipped said made in mexico so what about that american made claim? I had to fight them over several emails before they finally admitted the mistake and am still waiting for the replacement camera. Three weeks so far and they claim the delay is due to corona...

Upgraded my NV4116E to this model...VERY PLEASED!!
I recently upgraded from an Amcrest NV4116E that I had for 4 years. This newer model is a significant improvement in performance and it works great with all my existing Amcrest IP cameras. The fan is much quieter than the older model. Remote viewing and playback of my 8 cameras with the Android app is much smoother than before. Also the local viewing of the cameras is much clearer with 4k HDMI feed to my LG OLED big screen. Amcrest has improved the system menus and functions as well. Very pleased overall!

Finally, massive storage
I bought the Amcrest 5Series 4K NVR 16-Channel NV5216 16CH without any HDD in it. I ordered 2 MaxDigitalData 8TB 7200 RPM 256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive from Amazon and installed them in this unit. I was able to connect the JideTech 5MP PTZ Camera Outdoor, Amcrest cameras, and Ctronics PTZ Camera Security Camera Outdoor - 5MP 30X. So it does connect to other cameras that are ONVIF compliant. I am then able to use the Amcrest view pro App to control the all the cameras.

Great tool to have
This is my third NVR now. Of course if you have different cameras and instead of opening different apps on your phone to see them individually you can use this, where you can operate and most importantly it accommodates control on all at once. Best of them all, however customer service is unprecedented. Was on hold less than 5 minutes, concrete answers and nicely setup where Riley took over remotely and did the fine tuning. Everything in on YouTube and had already set it up however there is always a kink that needs to be taken care of. I might call them again to deal with a static IP and port forwarding but again, reaching out to someone when need it is what matters to me. Thanks Riley P!

The Amcrest NV5216 can actually do the job where the Amcrest NV4116E-HS and Amcrest Support failed.
Do not count on Amcrest Support for much help. I purchased a bundle of equipment direct from Amcrest. I got 8 of their IP3M-954EB Cameras, 4 of their IP2M-841EW cameras. and their NV4116E-HS Network Video Recorder. I also purchased through Amazon an additional MicroSeven model M7B5MP-POESAA camera. I have no complaint about any of the 13 Cameras, they all work just fine. I had Amcrest specify all the Amcrest hardware, issue a quote, and then purchased all the Amcrest quoted hardware. The only thing not specified by Amcrest was the one MicroSeven camera. The NV4116E-HS Network Video Recorder (NVR) has proven to be a problem. It only has a 100BaseT network Interface which has now proven to be insufficient to handle the video feeds from the 12 Amcrest Cameras and still allow remote acccess to the NV4116E-HS NVR using the Amcrest Web View application. ( I pulled the MicroSeven camera out of the network to test and verify in a pure Amcrest only environment.)The new NV5216 NVR handles all 13 cameras, including the MicroSeven ONVIF camera, while still allowing remote network access to the NV5215 NVR using Amcrest Web View.I spent hours on the phone trying to contact, or work with, Amcrest Support and finally had to give it up as a lost cause because they would never give me a straight answer, and would auto-close my ticket every couple days.Amcrest builds some great hardware, but their Support is seriously lacking.
