Very light and comfortable!
I hate buying hiking shoes. Years ago I got some Salomon trail shoes and loved them, but I wore the treads out. I had them in my cart one day and they were discontinued the next. I have tried and returned several others that just weren't nearly as good. I researched, and read reviews and finally found these. A bit more expensive than I was expecting, but totally worth it. I just wore these for a little 3.5 mile trail today and they feel like I've had them forever. No breaking in needed. I can't speak to the grip yet, as it wasn't a very rocky or slippery trail, but they feel great so far and are light as a feather. I have narrow/medium width feet and these fit like a glove.*UPDATE We just got back from Joshua Tree and I can say these are even more amazing than I previously thought. I am not petite, nor is balance a a strength of mine and I walked down boulders like Spiderman. After 2 days on various trails, my feet feel great.

Finally, a comfortable Hiking Shoe
My husband swears by Danner's desert boots (I even tried a Women's pair, but didn't like them), so when I saw these new hiking shoes, I decided to give them a try. And, I'm so glad I did! I have been unable to find a mid top hiker that is comfortable to me - the top usually bangs up against my ankle and hurts too much - so this low top hiker was appealing. I have to add my recommendation to the other reviewers. Both colors are nice - I have the red as it was the only one available in the size I wanted. I got lucky and chose the right size, but it was a difficult decision. I generally wear a size 8 medium (for example, in Skechers sneakers & sandals, and in Jellypop's sneakers). Measuring based on the size chart shown here on Amazon's website, a size 7 was indicated. (I wear a size 7 in UGGs shearling boots). I checked on Danner's website and found their sizing is based upon the Brannock device. Not having access to one of those, I tried to measure manually, using instructions found on the internet, and came up with a size 9.5! (It must be true if it's on the internet, right?!!). After wasting way too much of my life on the size quandary, I tossed a coin and ordered my usual size 8. There's plenty of room in the toe box and a size 7 1/2 might work, but these don't feel too big or squishy. And my toe doesn't bump up against the end of the shoe going down steep hills. So, I feel good with the size 8. I usually wear lightweight Skechers for my 3-mile exercise walks on the hilly asphalt road (in the West Texas high desert) where I live, but I tried these out to see how they would feel. They're a bit heavier than the Skechers, of course, but still lightweight and not too hot. They provide support but are still flexible and the laces can be tightened or loosened as needed to accommodate a range of foot width or varying thicknesses of socks. (Actually, I found them to be comfortable enough to wear without socks!) The soles are also thicker than the Skechers - they are hiking shoes, after all - and provide excellent cushioning and great traction when walking on hilly, rocky trails. And when walking indoors on tile floors, there's no annoying squeaking that some shoes have.

Fantastic quality
I have been using these in the Pacific North West for hiking, commuting, walking around the city etc. Pretty much everything. And they are fantastic!Comfortable, fit well, and I have large feet. The 14 Wide fits me great! There is enough room for my orthotics, but it was a little tight at first till everything wore in properly. Water resistance is great! I have walked in the rain with these many times and my feet were always dry.

Disappointing
I've had military Danner boots and they were great, so I had high hopes. These were a complete disappointment. I went about 6 miles on them and they hurt my feet so bad I had to later switch to running shoes. The pain lingered several days after. Now I have $160 shoes I do not want to wear. Definately go somewhere and try them before you buy. Would not recomend at all

A little too narrow
I returned these because they were too narrow. That said I have another pair the same size that is not Gortex that fit. In my opinion the Gortex lining makes them more narrow. I'll try a half size larger.

Hands-down, the best hiking shoe
I can’t say enough good stuff about the Trail 2650s. This is my second pair; the first is still going strong after 600+ miles! They still have plenty of wear left, but I wanted to get another pair in case they were discontinued before I needed them. Great for moderate hiking when ankle support is not an issue. Plenty of grip on rocks, roots, mud and even light snow. The wider toe box is a blessing on longer hikes and if you want to include some trail running. They’re not waterproof, but have enough water resistance to stay relatively dry in wet conditions. I wear heel inserts and thick socks, so ordered an extra half-size up from running shoes. The fit is very similar to trail runners, surprisingly supportive considering how light they are. Would recommend these to anyone looking for a durable, versatile hiking shoe. Worth every penny!
