How mild is this one? we had a mild one in jamaica but i suspect it was home made. we bough the island spice and eatons and both are too hot for kids.

Its "Jamaica" mild on par with the spice island, so I'd probably steer clear with your kids.

How hot is the hot? Like red jalapeño spicy? my kids like spicy but don't have the tolerance my husband and I do yet.

I regularly make organic, vegan jams and jellies.  I use various peppers that differ widely in intensity and heat..."scotch bonnets" are habaneros that are HOT...habaneros come in mild, medium and HOT now, whereas when I was a kid...they didn't.  They were just KILL you hot.  Now people breed it down a bit and then they also breed UP and you have ghost peppers now.  Habanero can BURN your skin if you don't triple layer plastic gloves when slicing them.  I haven't ever CRIED when cutting them like onions can make you do, but by God...NEVER touch anything when you haven't removed the gloves either.  Toss the knife directly into hot soapy water that cuts oils and grease to begin breaking it off of your knife handle, already have plastic bags or bowls ready for it, be wearing triple layers of gloves...remember not to touch your face, bare skin, eyes, ears, or nose.  I knew a chef in a restaurant that quickly and without thinking...in a rush opened, removed the seeds, and chopped a jalapeno then put it directly into a blender and hit FRAPPE...and went off to the loo.  He wasn't wearing gloves when he chopped the peppers....and forgot to wash BEFORE relieving himself.  He actually had to be treated for chemical burn level damage to the skin in his groin area from jalapenos.  Habaneros....lol...  Habaneros are what are use in jerk marinades, pastes, and spices....  Even mild is spicy for children.  My diabetic relatives (have more sensitivity to heartburn and the like) can handle the MILD version of this seasoning paste but...I really cut the amount I use for them.  It is SUPPOSED to be hot, it is EXCELLENT and the traditional recipe of Rice and "Peas" (really red beans) that goes with it is the PERFECT compliment for the heat and spice because it has some sweet from coconut milk...a bite of meat with a half forkful of the coconut rice and EVERY person I have ever fed this meal to can't get enough...especially pregnant women.  I have a flog (food blog!) website that I put the recipe on for the rice and HOMEMADE jerk marinade from Jamaica....for real lol, not someone who said they were but knows nothing about it and has an accent from England lol...  A real Jamaican...a real recipe.  I recommend this if you don't want to go to the trouble and bother of making it yourself, this is a good substitute compared to others I have tried on the market.  Grace actually knows what the hell they are doing.  A lot of brands really suck at this...it is a rather particular flavor you need to hit.  The made from scratch is best, but...in a pinch, I've used this and had satisfied guests too.  ASK your guests about heartburn, heart medications, and allergies to NUTS.  There is a crapton of allspice and nutmeg typically in these flavor profiles and you NEED to ask that because of the spices.

Cant answer in pounds but it will make heck of alot. I usually use it sparingly. 1/4 of a teaspoon for 3 big chicken thighs.
