it will be great when the wind is blowing and you cannot tell ...
We have only got to use them once but the fish were not biting that day. But based on my experiment they should work as described. If so, it will be great when the wind is blowing and you cannot tell when you have a bite and wind moving the rod.

Might be fine on a lake or reservoir
Might be fine on a lake or reservoir, but I fish on a riverbank near the ocean (Columbia River), and the tension on the line from the weight necessary to hold in the current causes this to alarm constantly. Even leaving the line slack, the current, boat wakes, or drifting sea grass building up on the line is always enough to set this off. If it had a tension/sensitivity adjustment, it might work fine. It was a trial I knew would probably fail, but they were cheap, so I tried anyway. Back to just using my bell. :/

I was a little skeptical when I ordered these being that they were so cheap. I first tried them at night and I was amazed at how well they worked they were flawless and did not slip off the pole when you cast and was very easy to set up. I will buy again if there ever

Grandkids love it..
Great for taking kids fishing....they can play until a fish bites...then they run for their fishing pole...they love hearing the audible alarm going off....
