Excellent book. Could use an update.
Love this book. Very useful with its narrow focus. However, it could use an update to incorporate so e recent developments in technology, such as birding apps.

Bird Book Takes the Mystery out of Bird-Watching!
Midwestern Birds Backyard Guide settled all our questions about what kind of birds were feeding at our feeder. My husband and I would sit on our deck with binoculars in one hand and the Bird Book in the other hand. One of us would look through the binoculars to get a close-up description while the other would look up the bird that had us guessing. The book is loaded with colorful pictures of common and those not so common birds who feed at our back yard feeders. The descriptions of each bird are vivid with detail, including the sounds they make, their flying pattern, and what it is they like to eat. Midwestern Birds Backyard Guide sits on our living room end table to be snatched in an instant to note what bird is at our feeder. This book is a great way to learn how to identify birds and their habitat.I give Midwestern Birds - backyard Guide by Bill thompson a 5-star rating, and I recommend it for all backyard birders.Review by: Rita Kroon, author, blogger, book reviewer, and seasonal back yard birder

I wish I could rate it higher....
but, I can't. I recently moved from southeastern Wisconsin to western Wisconsin. Both are in the Midwest, hence the Midwestern Birds book purchase I made. The reason I bought this book is because I saw 2 birds that I had never seen before and I was curious what they were. Well, neither bird is pictured in this book. Another gripe I have is that there is only one hummingbird in this book and I have seen at least one other type at my old place. The bottom line is that I will now have to purchase another book in order to identify those 2 birds in question. This is definitely NOT a comprehensive guide for Midwestern birds.
