Book 2 keeps the mysteries coming…
Hmmm… Overall I liked this second book. There was a lot of action and side stories to the overall plot. I like the fact that society has issues and not everyone agrees with leadership. I think that added a touch of realism. James nemesis (Chandler) returns and causes many of the problems that the protagonists encounter. A lot of questions are answered but of course many more are left for the third and final book in the trilogy.MINOR SPOILERS:I had some issues with this book.. First, in the beginning James and the leadership detect asteroids flying towards the earth. After James and the leadership team takes care of these asteroids they later learn this was a ruse and that there were many more smaller asteroids streaming towards earth to wipe out what is left of mankind. It really had me wondering how any intelligent life could fling asteroids 200,000,000 miles away into precise targets? Oh well its Sci-fi right?MAJOR SPOILER:When humankind reaches Eos and the first team sets up camp on the alien planet Emma hands Izumi an MRE. Wait what? Earlier we are told that MRE’s expired and couldn’t be eaten but somehow these lasted 6,000 years?

great read
The author is so different than most. He is original, intelligent, and keeps you on your toes. I also like how he alternates different point of views. Arthur is such a compelling personality. I really enjoyed this book

A good political allegory
This review contains discussion that could be considered spoilers from the end of the first book. Therefore I have chosen to give my impressions here, after the middle act, to prevent spoiling the first book's biggest reveal. My first criticism is with the main character, James Sinclair. There is no way he could possibly be the product of the South Carolina school system. He exhibits no scars from having his intelligence exploited and his creativity stifled and belittled. He is also far to well spoken. I can suspend disbelief about everything else in the story, but not this!I was about halfway through the second book when I realized what The Grid represents. All that BS about "conservation of energy" is nothing more than rationalization of laziness and greed. Even the flippant, dismissive attitude of Arthur mirrors the attitudes of the wealthy. Significantly, the society that develops among the survivors is a decidedly socialist, collective one. Richard Chandler represents the individualistic, egocentric attitude of the capitalist elite. This contrast is skillfully executed with the one exception already mentioned. The characters are generally believable, again with the one glaring exception. Richard Chandler does seem a trifle flat as a character, his motivations simplistic for a man of his supposed intelligence (HE strikes me as more typical of South Carolinians). Otherwise, though, the characters seem consistent and believable.Right about the point that Richard shows back up, I took a break from the story for a few days. I have never liked conflict, and I eventually realized that I stopped reading because the story overwhelmed me. That's a neat trick for a fiction story! I realized that I was empathising with the characters as they realized and accepted that their world was doomed. It takes some really skillful writing to pull that off.George Lucas explained that the middle act of a trilogy is always the darkest story. He said, "In the first act, you introduce everybody and set up the action. Then, in the second act you put your characters in the worst possible situation that they could never possibly get out. Then in the third act, you get them out." I'm really looking forward to this story's third act.

Long, Wonderful Read
So much takes place here, with the same people, over 6000 years. It’s a wild ride. And totally worth reading.

some of the time things got a little tedious
The action got predictably stalled at a few points and I felt like the author was adding filler. Basic good story and and mostly well told.

Even Better the Second Time Around
I had the honor of reading the first of AG Riddle’s books long before they blew up on Amazon, and I’ve been captivated and mesmerized by his writing ever since!I’ve bought every book and he’s become one of my favorite authors! He takes the time to really research his books and you can tell when reading that he has thoroughly done his homework! I’m on the edge of my seat again with this trilogy and it’s just as good, if not better, the second time around!

Muito bom mesmo
Segundo livro da trilogia. Como no primeiro, tudo é muito bom. Estória muito criativa, personagens consistentes, desenvolvimento frenético, envolvente. Recomendo.

I've lost a lot of sleep because of A.G. Riddle
I purchased the series and since I received the set two weeks ago have lost a lot of sleep. A compelling read, good pace, and very hard to put down.

Captivating space thriller
I enjoyed this sci fi novel because it manages to intelligently mesh space tech & imagination with human concern(s) and emotions. A race is on to discover a new threat to humanity and the author has no qualms in menacing Earth with extinction; two protagonists are charged with identfying the threat and saving the planet , a man and a woman, each given a voice -chapter by chapter: it's well done, never artificial, and moves the story forward at a gooooood pace. A rich read and a pleasant surprise. I bought the second book.
