Rite in the RainWeatherproof Top Spiral Notebook, 3" x 5", Green Cover, Universal Pattern, 6 Pack (No. 935L6)

The right tool for the job.
I used these in the military for 6 years, and as an electrician for the last 8 years. They survived a deployment to Iraq, a few field exercises, and all the the other crap the military could offer. They've survived the last 8 years as an electrician. Jobsites, rain, dust, mud, the washing machine, whatever. I always carry one of these at work.Pencils work fine, pencil will smudge on the pages, but of course they will right? A ballpoint pen is also fine. A gel pen on the other hand is a no go.Pros: I like that the pages are grid lined. There is useful info on the covers, never really needed it, but nice to look at occasionally. (Edit: 14 January 2019, I used the info on the cover to convert liters to gallons, so now I can say I've used the info inside the cover.) I can say from experience that they will survive the washing machine. The paper is pretty tough. Most cheap note pads will have the first page falling out in no time, these pages will last the life of the book.Cons: No gel pens, but I hate gel pens so not a con to me. Could be to someone that likes them. There really are no cons for me for these notebooks. They're perfect.Highly recommended.Edit: Pro tip- rite in the rain pens will still write in freezing temps.

Be aware
This comment was for general awareness. After reading please disregard the 1 rating .I did not pay close attention to pen and pencil requirements. This is critical.GEL PENS ... all brand types I tried do not work well. After using .25 gel pens with this paper , pen tip became contaminated from contact to paper ( the paper appears to have something added for water proofing)... this contaminated the pen tip which in turn contaminated all paper types afterwardsMechanical pencils work well.Flat markers .3 and .5 worked well.Hope this helps.

The most durable pocket notebooks available. I tried them all.
I have been using these top spirals for over a year. I bought 10 of them, and am only on number 3! They are the most durable notebooks around. I tried moleskin, field notes, off brands of field notes and moleskins and even off brands of RITR. None compare. Not even close. The one on the left has been used for about 3 months and is halfway full. I am a regional fisheries program manager and use them in the field all the time, especially in inclimate weather or just plain ol in the middle of the rivers/lakes. I use multiple different covers in my EDC rotations, and sometimes none at all. I have these things stashed everywhere. My EDC pack, my truck, my jackets, my fishing gear, my hunting gear, my bug out bags, my get home bags, etc etc... I bought 10 for a reason!Overall, I highly recommend this product. You will not find a better notebook.... unless you are looking at the RITR Top Bound (No. 778)... because that is a new one and instead of top spiral, it is tear away top bound, thick with pages, and an amazing notebook. Once I am done with these top spiral ones, I am going to the 778 as my go to notebook. I already bought 10 but am forcing myself to use the top spirals until they are gone ;)

Now I can carry around my kill list... I mean notebook ;) Along with the index card wallet, these are the best EDC items for CRS
First off, ignore the review with pictures of a multicam one. They clearly were expecting an admin pouch with molle for their plate carrier or something. There is OBVIOUSLY no molle or room for attachments. OBVIOUSLY. This thing is meant to go in a pocket. I find it a bit funny that anyone has rated that review as helpful given it's nitpicking things that are clearly not the intention of this kit. That said, here is a better review:Fits in my back pocket just fine. Well constructed. There is room inside next to the notebook for the pen, but you won't be able to get it out as easily. I have included pictures with measurements for reference. Another positive: It's made in the US and does not cost $400! And they say it can't be done...If you have never used write in the rain products, you should definitely try. The pens quality is very good. It writes well, not too bold, not too skinny and does not leak. I have actually written in 'damp' weather too. I have not used one of these since 2012 when I was in the Army, but I decided its a good thing to carry every day and took the plunge. Give it a try.I highly recommend this package.*I have been using this for about a year now, and it holds up great. The pen NEVER slipped out as stated in the "multicam admin pouch" review by someone expecting an admin pouch instead of a pocket protector. I also purchased the index card kit and enjoy that even more. I love the RITR quality, and tactical taylor did a great job with this case. So, skip the review with the multicam pics and don't be an idiot. This is a pocket worthy EDC item, not an admin pouch meant for attachments, d-rings, and exterior plate carrier molle attachment. Get real...

Work Great For PO
I use my Write In the Rain notepads with a Write In the Rain pen every day as a police officer. Through cold and hot weather, rain and snow. No smearing, and I have readable notes then, and weeks later. I'm not usually in super heavy rain for long periods of time. Personally, I haven't had any issues in the last year of use. There was one short coming: it could be difficult to copy info from ID/DL cards, insurance cards, and other documents. Solution: Two paperclips on the outside rings (see pictures). Works great.

Held up but not fully waterproof
I carry this in abreast pocket every day I work in a reflective vest. If it's raining, it gets rained on, as I'm outside all day. Through the day the page edges will take on some water (wicking?) But water that gets on the face of the page just beads off. If I needed to flip around in the book more I think this would be more of a problem, as the part by the rings wouldn't hold up at all when wet, but I'm usually only on one page per day, so it has been a non issue. It dries out fine overnight. Just don't expect this to work if you are constantly or exceptionally wet, and probably won't hold up if you are flipping pages whole it is wet.

Does quite a lot more than it says on the tin!
Tested in the field and more harshly at home - and it outperforms its name! The first day I had this, it came in handy to jot down a phone number whilst out walking in the rain.No fussing about trying to shelter the paper, like with a normal pad; just open it up, write, close and back in the pocket.Job done :-)I wanted to push the limits and see just how much abuse a sheet could practically take, and the results were very impressive.I tested writing with:* An HB (softer) pencil* A 5H (harder) pencil* A generic ballpoint pen* A generic permanent marker* A generic wax crayonand* A Fisher "Bullet" Space Pen Marks made on the paper before wetting, with all the above, remained intact after complete submersion in water for 15 minutes (the length of time my testing took, not an upper limit).I could write successfully with both pencils, and the Space Pen whilst the paper was completely submerged and significantly softened by the water.I half expected the hard pencil to tear the sheet, but there was absolutely no problem at all; it was just like writing on good quality dry paper. After being wetted, the paper does soften a little, but will dry out just fine, and although it gets a little crinkled, is practically none the worse for wear. One benefit of pencil, is the ability to erase the marks, and I decided to test if pencil could be erased from wet Rite in the Rain paper. It was no surprise that the paper was badly damaged by the attempt, but astonishingly, although the surface layer was rubbed away with the pencil marks, the eraser didn't go through or tear the sheet! The resulting damaged area was slightly more translucent and rougher, but remained intact, so after being dried, could have been reused. This proved to me just how durable this paper really is.Normal wet paper will disintegrate if you look at it too hard, but this actually stood up to be written on with a hard pencil whilst fully submerged in water for at least 10 minutes, then being rubbed with an eraser enough to remove the upper surface and pencil marks - and was still a useable sheet of paper!!Awesome stuff. Really great solution to a frustrating problem. As a bonus, the inside of the tough plastic cover is printed with useful unit conversion metrics, measuring rules and map scale guides. The pad size is perfect for a breast pocket, and the ring binder is of a heavy enough gauge to remain cylindrical under duress (some lesser quality pads don't tear off well).Totally satisfied. Great product. Fisher "Bullet" Space Pen

Utterly waterproof, utterly brilliant.
This is genuinely waterproof! Water does not soak into the page at all, but runs of the page, instantly leaving a dry surface. The pages don’t have a plastic feel to them, they feel like actual paper, maybe a touch waxy but only ever so slightly. Bought at the request of my son who is on army basic training, and he thinks it’s fab. My other son is a rugby coach and rugby ref who says they are brilliant for taking notes or keeping score in wind rain and snow. Easy to write on in all conditions with pencil, marker pen or ball point pen. But be sure to use a decent one that can cope with the texture of the paper. I can recommend the Uniball Power Tank as these are the ones I bought, they write at almost any angle and are also waterproof. The conversion charts and scales on the cover are a nice touch. These notebooks are brilliant for any outdoor activity and do exactly what they claim to. I will be buying these again and am happy to recommend them.

Does it's job! NOT to be used with fountain pens though
Well, I have to say I'm actually rather impressed with this.I wanted to start EDC'ing a notebook with me, to go with my keychain pen on my Victorinox Manager, and this was obviously a compact (A6?) solution that not only works for my usecase, but is totally waterproof.Tried and tested, it is definitely waterproof and has no problems keeping the text on it from fading when exposed to water or various other test liquids. You can def. trust it. It even has a front page with some conversion charts & a ruler! Handy :)Will NOT work with gel pens or fountain pens (or highlighters, for that matter); this is due to the consistency of the water-based inks found within them, and is mentioned on the first page of the notebook. Works splendidly with a selection of biros, rollerballs, pencils, and other inks, however!

Take "note" of this pad
This book was perfect for what I needed (an outdoor course). Genuinely waterproof, small enough to fit in trouser pockets, big enough to write worthwhile notes.Hardback case was good, has a ruler on the side of it which comes in handy, durable pages with grid layout - more useful than lines.I went through a stream for about 60 minutes with the book fully submerged in my pocket - the notepad is still serviceable.I will definitely be buying again.

Solid
The media could not be loaded. Pages in this pad are like those luxurious cloth-like napkins that you only get at Christmas when you go to somebody else house, when they want to impress you: each page feels too good to tear out and throw away, so each pen stroke is likely something you’d put more thought into, especially given the size of the notepad’s pages. The versatile design of the paper allows for both all weather pens, as well as ones closer to hand. However, directions discourage the use of gel ink pens (which I put to the test) over the preferred ball-point, but I found both to work well in post-wet conditions (after time to cure). Unfortunately the all weather pens cost the Earth (ironically) and so I am grateful that even wax crayons will do the job, knowing how pens can just go missing. This is a notepad and that’s all anybody really needs it to be, but sometimes the design department gets bored, or it feel the heat from new competitors and begins to over-bloat their design with additional swiss-army-knife like functionality. Yes, it does that, with conversion tables and ruled edges on the toughened plastic front and back covers, but it’s not intrusive and could be useful as this product likely serves many industries. For myself I have seen first hand how even unrecommended writing tools are taken care of and that’s enough for me. “Write in the Rain” - I could be crying when I write ..o0 (food for thought)This is a product that is made in the United States of America, which, if you’re from a First World country, means something.
