Star Ratchet removal tool
Although the advert title mentions pawls this tool is for removing / fitting the star ratchet drive plate. If you've watched the DT Swiss video you'll know that removing this drive ring is a "little" harder than they show you on a brand new hub. By a little they mean A LOT!! I first tried this in an aluminium wood working vice. That vice now has a bow in it as the force needed was so great the vice cracked. One of the reasons that DT Swiss have machined their tool flat across one side is I suspect to give a little more surface area/leverage to hold the tool in place. There is also another video using a large adjustable spanner to hold the tool. I couldn't get enough force applied in the right direction to do that though if I'd tried the ultimate solution this might have worked. My solution in the end used a large 6inch vice bolted securely to one end of a sturdy bench with the other end jammed against the wall. I strapped a Thule roof bar to the wheel then strapped the second roof bar to the first. I got my wife to lean on top of the wheel stabilising it on the tool and keeping it level while I pushed heavily on the roofbar. You could see and hear the wheel winding up and eventually the ratchet drive came loose.Make sure you don't remove the non drive side bearing first as having the axle in place helps stabilised the tool.I'm not sure if it's machined to the same tolerances as the proper tool as I haven't got one to compare to. It has however stood up to a lot of grunting and groaning with no damage to the ratchet drive or the tool, it's less than half the price of the original and does appear to be up to the job. The only question will be .... are you? Not for the faint hearted!

don't over tighten the tool in vice..
good tool worked well..purchased a similar one from another supplier which broke as I think I over tightened in vice..so don't go to mad when clamping in the vice...

Invaluable if expensive
Strong little tool that is invaluable if you have a DT Swiss rear ratchett hub. Initially I thought I was going crazy as I couldn't work out how to access the internal wheel bearing but this tool sorted me out. There is no chance of taking the internal lock ring out without this as the forward pressure of the drive chain continually tightens the thing when pedalling!

Made in China
Spent a good while scrolling down through options that obviously come from China, as i didn't want ripped of paying £70 for a genuine DT Swiss nut. Sadly this option originated in China and as it does not have the cut away side section up to the ring segment you have to use a spacer to use the tool to properly align the metal washer in behind the ring gear, not the end of the world and easily done and if you have no issues supporting China in polluting the environment and shipping it around the world it a acceptable and cheap option

Worked a treat!
A lot of money for a tool I’m going to use once every couple of years but worked perfectly and for half the price of the dt Swiss version. Managed to clamp it in a vice and with two people undo the freehub ratchet by turning the wheel.
