I ordered this, being very interested in making my own bismuth crystals. At first I ordered a 2 or 3 pound sample from another seller, but that just wasn't enough to make a good size crystal. So, I ordered this 8 lb sample. It worked great, and one my first try I got three nice crystals, about 1.5 to 2 inches in size. There are a lot of good you tube videos on how to do it.How I did it:I melted the bismuth in a small semi-spherical iron bowl I bought at Daiso for $4. I was hoping to make a geode type crystal. After it was completely melted (on my gas range in my kitchen), I removed the heat and let it cool for 4-5 minutes. Then I fished out the crystals that were floating around, with a metal fork. I still haven't successfully made a geode type, but its fun trying. Be careful, don't burn yourself.

Not a whole lot you can review for a box full of bismuth but, I mean, I got what I wanted. You get a whole lot of bismuth which is great if you're planning on making some bismuth crystals!

Came kind of slowly, but faster than some things 1.5 weeks). Slightly under weight (8lbs is 3.629 kg, not 3.623). But that's not a huge difference, but when talking kilograms it's pretty significant. I just expect to get exactly what I ordered. Not a bit less. I sell elements and I always send a bit more than the customer ordered because I know that mechanical losses can ruin plans. Maybe they as sellers should do the same. The packaging was a bit.... under done? Just a tiny box within a box with no receipt, invoice, thank you card, writing or anything in/on it. I didn't even know what I had in my hands until I could clearly see the bismuth. But all in all it's a great buy and cheaper than buying it pound by pound or kilo by kilo. 4/5 stars. Would have given 5 stars if there was an invoice for my records, if the weight was exactly as advertised and if the shipping was just a bit faster.

My family is very eccentric and very smart. My husband and daughter do science experiments together on weekends for fun and the weekend that they chose Bismuth was one of the coolest that I've seen to date. From the same piece of metal they made so many different shaped and colored things. I say things because the items that they made were so unique that I don't really know what to call them. I do know that everyone that has seen them has been amazed and has asked about them and where we bought them. They are always surprised to find out that that was just a daddy/daughter project. I hate that they moved past the bismuth and haven't gotten more because it is something that I wouldn't mind them doing more often.

I bought this product to grow bismuth crystals with my middle schooler and it has yielded an exceptional amount of curiosity with her!!
