Great baby item I didn't realize I needed!
Love this nightlight! When we first moved our baby to her own room, we quickly realized during that first middle of the night diaper change that of all the baby items we purchased, we had no nightlight. During that first middle of the night diaper change in her own room, I had to turn on the table lamp which was bright enough to fully wake her up. I came to amazon and decided to buy this nightlight based on looks, reviews, and the fact you could take it off the base. I love this light. Our baby now sleeps through the night so we rarely use in the middle of the night, but I still find we use this almost daily and we turn it on in timer mode while she falls asleep. This light also gives me plenty of light to see around the room while still keeping the room dark and soothing (I find the blue color great for this!). I also sometimes need to sneak into her room at night to get something, like the laundry, and this light gives me enough light without disturbing her. I have enough light to even read a baby book to her if I have the light right next to me.The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that when you take the elephant off the base, the light defaults to "rainbow" mode.... unless you push the very small button underneath to cycle through and maintain one of the colors. This is fine, but the red color/light (at least for me) is very dark and makes it very hard to see - so in "rainbow" mode, which rotates through the colors, when it gets to red for those 10 seconds or so, I can't see at all. This isn't ideal when you're trying to find your way around a dark room or changing a baby's diaper, etc. I wish it "defaulted" first to blue color instead of "rainbow" and alternating colors.

Would LOVE this if it didn't have the timer
I was looking for a night light that my daughter could sleep with, that would stay on all night. After reading reviews I decided to go with this product. This is just okay.Pros:Daughter loves itDoesn't get hotBright but not too brightLove the color options (my child loves the changing one)There really only is one con that I see (so far after 4 days of use) and it's a HUGE drawback, is by default this thing is set on a timer. So if my 2 year old turns it on by pressing the button on the bottom, it is on and the timer is now set. If I turn it on (and turn the timer off by holding the power button), the timer goes off. Now if you child is like mine and likes to play with this and change the colors - the timer is now back on. Super annoying. I don't know why they couldn't have switched this behavior, so that by default it would stay on and if you wanted the timer on you would have to press and hold the button.If it wasn't for that this would get 5 stars.****Update: 8/2. I started having issues with this. It started flickering when changing colors on the rainbow setting. I contacted customer service and they had me try to reset it. That did not fix the issue. They sent me out a new one within a few days. FANTASTIC customer service! Highly recommend! Updating to four stars for customer service - would be five if they would change the timer functionality.

Love the product but . . . Elephant problems(resolved)
I absolutely love these lights. I purchased one for my oldest son about a year ago (brontosaurus) and it has been working like a charm. I purchased the elephant for my 4 year old and for some reason it keeps turning off mid-way through the night (yes, I hold down the black button until the red light is off). I tried using the reset feature but it still keeps happening. How do I know this? Because my 4 year old gets scared and shows up in my room at 3 am, 4 am, etc. because his elephant has gone off. I do highly recommend these lights - I think they are wonderful. I think I may have just received a bum elephant. If anyone has had this issue and can advise, I welcome the input. Otherwise, I may be exachanging my elephant for one that stays "awake" all night.1/3/11 Update: I am just updating my review to reflect the great customer service from this company. I contacted them and told them about my elephant troubles and they said they had never experienced one of their products having this problem but immediately put a replacement in the mail. We received our new elephant and it is working perfectly so far. Thank Goodness - no more night time visits from my 4 year old! Just when you think customer service is a thing of the past you come across a great company that stands by their products. I may buy glowing elephants (or dinosaurs, or bears) for everyone I know.
