Good stuff but you need to be pretty handy
I'm a pretty handy guy but this still took some thinking. Don't even think about using drywall hangars with these! I also used longer screws, what it came with would not get deep enough into the stud...Use a 5/8 spade bit to make the holes, it will give you a little play.I hung mine vertically, as that's the ONLY way you can get both screws into the studs. You can see a little bit of the bracket poke out this way since I used 2X10's, but only a tiny amount and this will make the brackets FAR stronger. My wife has HEAVY antique sewing machines and books on hers, I could likely hang from them.

Tricky Prep but Solid results
Let me start by saying these brackets allowed for a very solid finished product. We have made floating shelves before with a different style of bracket (not this brand) and they felt flimsy and I didn't trust putting much weight on them. These shelves with these 8inch brackets are SOLID. No movement at all. That being said my husband hated having to drill the holes in the wood for these brackets. It was cause for much frustration even after reading all the other reviews of how they made it work. Don't know if it was just the whole process or that in our 8inch box of brackets there were the instructions for the 6 inch brackets so the depth of holes listed on the instructions were not correct and we didnt realize it until we tried to place the boards on the brackets and my hubby realized he had to go back and drill more. So make sure your instructions are correct for your particular bracket. Would I buy them again...I would in a heartbeat but probably not my husband.Overall we are both very happy with the final product

So far so good!
We used them to install floating shelves in our bathroom and so far so good! My fiance installed them with ease. We will see how they hold up over time but they seem very sturdy!

Simple and very strong!
After looking around at some big box stores for floating shelves and being completely unimpressed by prices and sizes, I decided to make my own. Never had a floating shelf, so new venture to me. I measured, mounted to studs, and placed a 12" shelf I had laying around. Zero issue. Plenty strong. Holds my Xbox X under my tv. Definitely recommend these for DIY shelf project.

Strong brackets to install your shelves
Just what you need to have solid floating shelves.

Not the easy way to create floating shelves
Good luck. Drilling perfect holes this deep is nearly impossible. First I drilled 1/2 inch diameter. The shelves wouldn't slide in. Then I was to 3/4 of an inch. Too big and the shelves were wobbly. So now I have to do dry wall repair and buy something else. These were a horrible pain in the butt.

I can’t be installed on stud thickness, (1 1/2”)
The craftsmanship of this item looks sturdy, but I’m disappointed about the distance of the two holes. The thickness of the studs usually is 1 1/2” in. thick The holes were exactly 1 1/2” apart so there’s no way you can install them on the studs! I’m planning to return the item because there’s no way I can mount them on my wall to hold the wood mantle.
