Les Misérables: The Staged Concert

OK it's staged but...
I love Les Mis, I saw this at the Barbican when it first opened then years later I was lucky enough to be at the 19th Anniversary and for Christmas the kids bought me this and the 25th celebration DVD.I have been spoiled by seeing it live twice, and seeing the 25th, but I am afraid this performance is lacking and the performers whilst doing their best don't even shadow the 25th performance and cast. Michael Ball is dreadfully weak, especially when serenading with Alfie Boe.So whilst this is entertaining, I would advise buying the 25th Edition much better cast, fantastic orchestra and three performing companies, simply electrifying. This version hardly stirs up feelings let alone tears.

Les Mis - Less the info!
Received the dvd this morning. Really looking forward to playing it this evening and I am sure it will be amazing. However, just a whinge about the dvd packaging; no booklet, no cast list, nothing! It may have been a nice gesture to add some information. Still giving it 5 stars though!

Brilliantly Beautiful
This is a beautiful, breath taking and captivating take on the "vampire" genre. It has easily become one of the best movies I have ever watched. The premises, the plot, the acting...everything is perfect. Its not your typical horror but it goes deeper exploring love, loneliness, the pain of immortality and having to do what is necessary to survive. The two main characters (Oskar and Eli) while being young are brilliant actors! The movie will make you question your morals and ask how you would feel.If you haven't seen LTROI you need to watch it today, it is a rare event to find a gem like this. I just wish there was a sequel to follow what happened next with Eli and Oskar. The directors commentary on the disc is also very good and worth a watch. Finally as this is based on a book with the same title, I would recommend you read it also - its an amazing book that adds even more substance to the movie."To flee is life, to linger death"

A Must For All
I have various versions on DVD and this is right up there as the best. I thought no one could be as great as Valjean as Colm Wilkinson but Alfie Boe might just pip him to the post. Ball, Jaeden, Lucas and the rest are a must see. Already a huge Boe and Ball fan I just had to get this.

Not the best rendition 😔
I adore Les Miserables, this rendition is good, although a little ‘shouty’ at times and I was disappointed with Michael Ball’s performance as he showed very little emotion and his voice seemed to struggle at times ( in contrast, in the 10th Anniversary he was absolutely brilliant). The other performers were excellent.

Moving, unique, special 'horror' film
Wow. Someone's actually managed to make an original vampire movie. I'm not a big fan of vampire stories, I've just seen it too many times. But this as good as it gets. Beautifully shot (and great looking on blu-ray), moody, mysterious, emotional. This is as much a pre-adolescent love story, as anything. An outsider boy, fragile, picked on, and harboring violent fantasies of revenge is befriended by a strange, pale young girl who doesn'tseem to feel the Swedish cold. It's a strange and fascinating mix of tones; bloody, gory killings, very sweet, well acted pre-teen romance, and occasional black comedy. There's also an interesting, complex morality here. Both our young heroes have deeply violent, sadistic streaks within them. Yet we root for them, even though some off her victims are truly innocent, and he collects stories about murder like a nascent serial killer. It grew even deeper emotionally on 2nd viewing.

Exemplary film making and very moving.
I'm not a horror film fan in fact I tend to avoid them because of the cliches and the fact that there's enough horror in this reality as it is without inventing more of it but under recommendation I purchased the Blu-Ray of 'Let the right one in'. I'm so pleased that I did! This is an amazing, nay, stunning film that is as far removed from Hollywood dumbed down film making as a snowball from Hell. The astonishingly good performances from the 11 year old leads (yes, really) would win Oscar nominations if they were born in the USA and the look, feel and style of the cinematography is delightful. The transfer is very good. It's difficult to light snow scenes at night but the Blu-Ray reveals the correct exposures and level of detail.Regardless of all that, this is a great story and very profound. I urge you to see it, at night.

Excellent, just like the book.
It is a very good movie, of course not as shocking as the book. It's very gratifying to see a good quality vampire- movie, not the disgusting things that nowadays seem to give credit to.The characters are great, very well chosen, the plot is... well, amazing and, without wanting to spoil it to you: if you're a fan of classic vampire cinema, then this is a good movie for you. It's an intelligent movie-making, the concept is original and the movie adaptation is fenomenal - although not exactly AS the book. The book is very explicit and "though". And it excells exactly because of that!If your likings go to Twilight and Twilight-related stuff, forget it.I'd give it 5 stars, without even thinking twice!Enjoy*
