A very enjoyable romp through the Cthulhu Mythos, well worth purchasing
I've just now finished the last page of this most enjoyable book that is overstuffed with Cthulhu Mythos yarns that are sure to delight anyone who is an afficionado of Lovecraftian lore. For the cover price, you're getting almost 450 pages of great stories that are just plain fun to read. Comtois is an veteran professional writer steeped in weird tales since his teens; his facility with language and his being a native of "weird tales territory" make this a pleasure to read. The only part of the book that threw me a bit were the two stories "The King in Yellow" and "The Pallid Masque," which (I think) were trying to present pieces of pseudo-scholarship and a presentation of the fabled King in Yellow mythology. These two pieces just seemed out of sync with the rest of the stories in the book. Happily (for me, at least), these two stories only amount to a small fraction of the book, and you're getting great value overall with the amount and quality of Cthulhu mythos stories between these covers. Mr. Comtois is a gifted writer, and his subject matter is right up my alley, and he does not disappoint with this collection of his tales. If you enjoy Cthulhu Mythos stories and just plain good writing, snap up this gem.

Worth the Wait
Goat Mother is a long-promised, long-awaited gathering of Pierre Comtois' Lovecraft Mythos tales. This score of stories, culled from the various pulps and little mags where they first saw print over the years, are a feast for anyone drawn by Lovecraft's dark mythology--and Comtois' creative uses of it. I enjoyed seeing old favorites like "Dreams of Yig" and "The King in Yellow" as well as newer tales like "Final Plea" and "Goat Mother." Interesting cover art.

Just a bit iffy
This set of stories did not grab my attention for very long. Some of the stories are interesting ideas not quite worked out; and some in which I got so bogged down, I had to switch to HPL himself. As a set of Lovecraftian stories for a collection of "Mythos" related literature, it is good to have.

Some books need content labels
Bought this for my daughter. Both of us enjoy Lovecraftian horror. The stories in here may be great, but would appreciate a warning label. Lovecraft's work NEVER contained graphic sex scenes. This book does.
